: PLEASE HELP....Edelbrock carb problems

I was just going to try and get my car running after adding some dress-up stuff. When I turned it over it started, but then stalled. I noticed fuel dripping from the air cleaner. After pulling the air cleaner and turning the key again to see where the fuel was coming from I noticed it was spewing out the top of the metering rods. I run an electric fuel pump with a regulator. Fuel pressure is fine, checked that next (even though I hadn't adjusted the regulator since the last time I started it). The last time it ran everything was fine. What could be causing this problem???? The carb is practically new, having only been run one time. I am new to the Edelbrock carbs and their setup, so any advice would be VERY welcome. I want to get it running!!!! FYI, I don't think it's the dress-up stuff causing the problem since that was air cleaner, valve covers and stuff like that.

how long did it sit before starting it again? i have an edelbrock on my biscayne and the float tends to stick after sitting awhile, usually a few taps with a screwdriver handle fixes it.

either that or a piece of trash in the needle/seat.

Brandon thanks for the quick response. I am not real familiar with the Edelbrock, yet. Car has been sitting for a couple of months.

I will be moving to your neck of the woods this summer, Camp Lejeune to be exact. Any good meets/car shows/clubs there now? I was stationed there in 93-97, but had a '67 Coronet R/T. What can I say, I like ALL muscle cars!!

Sounds to me like something is clogging the jet under the metering rod. I'd pull that rod, and shoot some carb cleaner through a straw into that jet. You should see fuel come out that barrel in the carb.

But I guess it could be a stuck open float too. Causing the bowl to fill with fuel. But I'm not sure if it will fill all the way to the top like it's doing.

Fuel is coming out the top of both sides at the top of the metering rods. Will try the things that you guys have suggested when I get home from work tomorrow.

Just got the Edelbrock not too long ago. Don't want to spend the funds on another carb right now. Gotta get this one working.

as far as the show/club scene around here, ill be honest im not really involved in that. when my dad was heavy into muscle cars he was involved in quite a few, but there doesnt seem to be a whole lot going on anymore. that is unless you are into imports.

usually i just go over to coastal plains dragway there in jacksonville, or shoot over to harrells 1/8th mile strip. we try to make it to the charlotte auto fair once a year, thats always fun.

When I was there last time my friend and I used to go to Coastal Plains. He had an '70 Dart that ran pretty well, so we would go there and run our cars. Good times. Not a big car show/club and such guy, just want to meet some other people into muscle cars. Hoping to finish the car while I'm there and it's always good to have friends with similar interests. One good turn deserves another ya know. Gotta have more than two hands to remove a hood and such.
