Eventually I wanna get this 283 to be a high end screamer. Really don't want to change the engine, so i gotta deal with what I got, so that means High rpm power. Thinking about Running a victor/victor Jr manifold, holley of some sort, 650 if required, right now i got a 575. This will be with 4.10's or larger, and YES I will drive it on the street, I never go on the free way. Im thinking of running a -097 duntov or first gen z28 cam, both putting peak power right around 7200K.

I thought to myself, WOW 7200, not that bad, gonna be loud as #@$* though :D But through my reading and research, valve train is gonna screw me on this. So what kinda stuff do I need to go this high and not be worried? Solid cam, some crazy springs and rockers? Is it even worth doing or would be in way to pricey?

The UD 272/272 is a comparable grind powerwise.
Just use Crane 99x46 1.25 springs.
Or Isky 295D's from Wolfplace.
Either is plenty for the small cams a 283 uses.
The 272/272 would probably work with Edelbrock RPM springs. So would the duntov or Z28. Both used about 115lbs on the seat IIRC. Look in the How to Hot Rod a small block chevy book. It has the springs in the back. Harland Sharps are a good RR. Need CroMo pushrods and guide plates. Nothing two special. Trick flows are $90 or so.
Those big springs are more suited to big valves and retainers.

Grand i bought that book a year ago. What do you think about heads? I've got stock heads, but they've been reworked.

You should be right at 9 to 9.25 to 1 CR.

Install a pair of 305HO, -601 heads, (mine cc'ed at 55), and Z- (-142), springs and Fel-pro PN 1094, .015" thick shim headgaskets to up your CR to about 9.6 CR.

No more then the great, little old, -097 Duntov solid cam will let it go above 7,000rpm EASY!!!

And the closer you can get her to 10 to 1, the better your motor will like it!! AND still run pump gas.

I used to beat on my junk 301 above 7,000 alot way back when..

PS., and yes, the aforementioned 272/272 grind is a modern equivalent of it so take your pick...

What do you think about springs/rockers? Top of the line comp cams or maker of cam?

Recall that the TOL stuff didn't exist 20 yrs ago.
I'm running more spring than you will on a set of Probe rockers. Went 6700 a few times by accident.
Harlands are a respected brand and a lot cheaper than Crane Golds or any steel RR.
Now the really good stuff might be a set of the new Crane shaft rockers. Only $800 or so. 1.6 of course.

Just thought I'd mention that the Performer RPM will probably feed a 283 to 7,000 rpm just fine without giving up low rpm torque like a single plane intake would.

Uncle is right AND stock valve train parts are good for the little motor!!

Read, stock rockers, Z- springs, cheap solid lifers and a good old -097 cam.

But I do recommend pinning the studs and buying a little bit better pushrod...

If you want to shim the springs you can do away with the oil shields, (metal umbrella's?) under the retainers, and gain a little bit more rpm!!! And do put decent valve stem seals on her..

Interesting pg, I would have assumed to use some non stock rockers, like Comp cams or Crane, or even harland. I looked in the summit catalog today, and the harlands were about $200, (1.6 of course). Stock rockers interesting. What are these 'z- springs' you speak of, z-28 peices?
