Hey all. I found a guy locally that has a 502 for sale. It's from carb to pan. It has 15,000 miles on it. I have no clue what it cost new or what its worth. The guy says he'll take 3K for it. Thanks for the input.

Considering the fact that the GM 502 crate is like $7200 in the box - that doesn't seem to be a bad deal depending on how beat up it is. I know of 11 502's in cars in these parts and about half of them are driven pretty hard - one even has a blower I guess. 15K miles doesn't seem too bad. Guess it just depends on how he's treated it.

I agree but my first question would be whats wrong with it as deals like that don't often appear....

I bought my 72 to get the ZZ-502 that was already in there.

Then decided the rest of the car was too nice to sell.

I'd have paid 3 grand for a 15000 mile ZZ-502 easy.

My brother built a 496 from a 454 block he already had,
and it cost him 7 grand in reciepts on top of that.

You didn't mention if it was the aluminum headed or iron headed 502, though.

Even beat up it's worth that IMO.....Refresh would be cheap and you would have a great piece....

I purchased a 502 HO for my wife's drag car a year and a half ago and paid $5170 for it. It didn't come with a carb or a fuel pump boss ( we're running an electric fuel pump). I've attached the site for the place I bought mine from. It looks like the list price has gone up, they now list this same motor for $5595 before shipping. There are several different 502 crate motor options that range up over $7000. I'm happy with the one I bought. $3000 sounds like a solid deal, assuming that there's nothing wrong with it.

I found out that the motor has the aluminum heads. Now they guy is rethinking his thought on selling it :( . Maybe he will sell. I thought it sounded like a good price. Thanks for the input.

A friend found a low hours 502 out of a boat cheap. The mercuiser motor was still under warrenty and they replaced the short block. A wrist pin had scared a cylinder wall (needed a 30 over to fix). He paid 1100 for the short block. He bored it and put SRP pistons in it and had a little over 2 grand in the short block. Deals are out there if you look around.
