I have a 454 that i just finished assembling and when using a pre oil drive with a electric drill i have oil flowing out of th e lifters but not out of the top of the push rods.Is this normal?Can the drill not be pushing enough rpms?

Do you have the valves adjusted? You will also have to rotate the engine while you prime it to get oil to all of the lifters. It takes a long time to get oil everywhere which goes to show the very reason for pre-lubing it in the first place.

If you have the cheap primer it won't push oil to the top of the engine.

Ooh good call Hank. I used and old distributor and ground the teeth off of the gear. Cut the advance weights off and ground the shaft till it fit in my 1/2 inch drill.

Hi! Just remember that as you turn the engine over you wipe all the cam lube off. I just done my 396 and made sure that it stayed lubed as I turned the engine over and lubed real good before putting intake on. It dosnt take much to wipe out a new cam!
