I was try to set my timing on the 489. I set the intial at 12* but only got 22* at 3000 rpm. I dug through the parts I bought that included the distributor and the card confirmed 10* mechanical and 10* vacumn. How can I get more mechanical? :confused: Thanks in advance!

Is that 10 crankshaft degrees or camshaft degrees?
I think your suppose to get about 20* crankshaft degrees of advance with those distributors. If you can really on read 10 degree advance I'd send it back....

Well, if he's getting 10* at the pointer, then it's probably 10* at the crank. How strange. I would purchase the Moroso curve kit, which is much better than the Mr. Gasket kit. Plop that in and it may get you what you need. Atop of that, go to the junkyard & pick up an assortment of center plates and weights.
