HI ,I got a tall deck bbc and just got not one but two sets of spacers ,after buying a oval spacer set a friend give me a rect. port set ,I am running a VICTOR TD 454 intake no need of spacers but it is to much for my combo ,I got a rpm air gap rect port and I am running oval heads which spacer I should use ?? and since edelbrock do not make RPM intake for tall decks I got to use the spacers but what should I do with the DISTRIBUTOR graemlins/clonk.gif ??? BUY a new one ??? or cut the intake in the distributor hole

There are a few companies that sell manifolds just for the tall deck motors (Team G is what I used), they are all single plane intakes though. These have the thicker mounting area and have been machined to "drop" the dist. lower so everything lines up right to use a stock dist. Even the stock tall deck GM/Chevy iron intakes were like this from the factory. That way Chevy didn't have to make two different length dist. for all their V8 engines.

If you wanna use your RPM intake you will have to buy manifold spacers. Summit sells them for about $100 a pair. Of course you will use two intake gaskets per side, but that's the nature of the beast. Also if you go this route you will have to eat the cost of $200+ of an aftermarker dist with an adjustable slip collar for the extra length needed.

Then you get into problems of the acess brackets not lining up and possible header fitment and hood clearence problems too.

I built several of these motors, only one for a Chevelle. I used it in my '69 Chevelle and I didn't have any header issues, but that was about the only problem I didn't run into....including hood clearence.

The only real reason tall deck blocks are useful over a standard deck 4 bolt block is that they can swallow huge stroker cranks and the high decks allows for a better wrist pin location on the pistons and better rod angle than standard height decks.

I hope you find this info useful, maybe you'll avoid the problems I had with mine in using it in a street ride.
