: Open header exhaust(harmful to fresh rebuild)?

Just broke my motor in last weekend and took it for a ride around the valley this past Sunday. It's my first rebuild and had some questions:

1. Is it harmful to run the motor with open headers to get it to the shop (10 miles) for exhaust work? I even have the collectors cut off so they can weld the Scavenger Collectors on! So really I only have 1 3/4" primary tubes for exhaust!

2. Will having open primaries make the car feel sluggish since there is no kind of restriction making back pressure?

3. Where is the best location for my X pipe(closest to headers or mufflers)? I realize it may be a duplication since I'm also going with Scavenger Collectors but all I've heard about the Sound of the X pipe I decided to throw one on as well. I'm hoping to not be disappointed.

4. Will a rebuilt carb(mine is the original Quadrajet) leak a little gas until all the gaskets etc. seat properly? My air horn to float bowl gasket seems saturated with gas but not sure if it's actually leaking.

Sorry for all the questions but remember how you were after your first rebuild? Just don't want to screw it up if you know what I mean? smile.gif

Thanks for any help. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Scott, your open headers situation will be fine for your trip to the muffler shop.Try tightening all of the screws on the top of the carb a little, and see if it still leaks after.
