I had my alternator rebiult and after I installed it my amp gauge now points straight down and does not work at all in my 70 SS and also since I had it rebiult my battery keeps running down when its sets for a few days., could there be a short or something in this alternator.

Disconnect the wires to the gauge. Connect a AA battery across the inputs to the guage for instant. That should snap the pointer around to correct position. It may take several tries. This is a common problem and this is the fix.

Could have a shorted diode in alt. Disconnect the main output wire from the alt and connect a test light between the wire and the alt output post. If it lights up your alt is bad. If not then you need to look else where. Use the test light between the battery positive cable and the positive post. Start disconnecting things until the light goes out. Pull fuses as well. Not hard just take some time to narrow it down.
