72 malibu everything works-- all lights, turn signals, back-up lamps... the only way to kill the engine is to turn the key to the off position and then use the turn signal!!! I'm thinking bad ground but everything works fine.

Original type ignition system or aftermarket ?

A bad ground will NOT be the cause.

Yes, what Dean is asking....Did you go with the likes of an MSD ignition with the original external voltage regulator? If so you need to install a Diode on the Blue (If i remember correctly) voltage regulator wire, or the car will not shut off. MSD will gladly tell you the Diode value and where to put it if you call their tech line. AND it's available at Radio Shack for less the 5 bucks. Just thinking out loud....Post more info if you can; if it's happening to you, odds are it happened to someone here before.....The more input you can provide will let perspective replies be more educated. Good luck figuring it out; hope it goes smoothly...

I agree. Call MSD and if the diode doesn't work, turn it around. A diode will on allow current flow in one direction. Sorry for the basics but let's not assume anything. Post more info and maybe we can help.
