: We pulled My 400SB (First Engine Pull) Pictures
Steven's 72 Jan 12th, 08, 5:06 PM Well Guys,
My neighbor and I pulled out my 400Sb today in order to make space for the new 454 BB.
We started at 11am and it was out by 2pm. Not including cleaning up time. I am happy since it was the first engine pull and we had no problems. Thanks for the info guys.
Going to clean the engine bay and pull out the TH350 for the rebuilt TH400 I have.
PS Thanks to my buddy at the local shop for lending me the Cherry Picker and some tools!
What do you think guys?
Hey guys thats me( Wife's pissed Used my New Christmas Jeans:thumbsup:)

72convertibless454 Jan 12th, 08, 5:15 PM Well - thats the easy part - be careful with the bumper still on. The hoist scratched my bumper when we pulled my motor out last year. Looks like you guys had a nice day to do this. Look in my gallery for photos of our project last year. Let me know if I can send you any photos to help out...
Nice job!!! keep it going:thumbsup:

bdc1013 Jan 13th, 08, 3:34 AM dont leave it on the hoist, get it on a stand. the hydraulic ram can let loose in a jiffy and i wouldnt want to see what happens to an engine when it falls from 4 feet in the air.

Got it secured on the stand, Needed to return my buddies hoist before the shop closed.
Emilio70ss Jan 13th, 08, 7:21 PM Steve,
Looks great.
I watched your big block go together down at the shop,
" roasting tires" is putting it lightly, more like " burn em up".
Looking forward to seeing that baby together and running. If you need anything, you have my cell, give me a ring.
70chevellemalibu Jan 13th, 08, 9:11 PM awsome goodluck
webfoot Jan 14th, 08, 12:06 AM Looks like a nice clean block you pulled out there, I think you got bit by the bug.

Dave Hopkins Jan 14th, 08, 6:52 PM Looks very familure, I am just finishing up mine (72 ElCamino 350 to 454). The vacuum hose to the power brake unit has a "T". Where is the other end going?

69396ss Jan 15th, 08, 12:32 PM You know..... since the motor's already out, now would be a really good time to clean-up the firewall and cowl, and replate the Booster, and restore the suspension, and rewire the Engine Harness, and clean-up the frame, and re-run the brake lines, and re-run the fuel lines, and restore the wipoer motor, and buy all the correct hardware, and ...............
Watch out for that trap :D
Next thing you know the Body will be off the frame.

Looks like the PCV valve. Usually the PCV is hooked up to the carb, but this setup works!

You know I did the front and rear end rebuilds already, and the car handles like a dream. I also removed the passenger side inner fender in order to replace them with new ones. I am also going to clean up the firewall and the area where the wipers sit, I guess this would be the cowl area. I only wish I had the space for a frame off.
I am going to get the engine bay as clean and detailed as I can get it for my new motor.
Astro Vent Jan 16th, 08, 11:13 AM cool man! good luck! 454's are lots and lots and lots of fun....

So far so good. I'm sure it will look great when the time comes to drop in the 454.
