: please help Harold UD
1320 Aug 12th, 04, 11:13 AM Sorry to bother you and thanks in advance. I would like to get a cam reccomendation for a 3300# car that will be for the street and strip. What I mean by street is local cruising around town so it is mostly for the strip.
3300 #
manual brakes
manual steering
406 sbc
AFR 210 heads
6" rods H-beams
srp forged pistons
11.1:1 compression
Super victor intake
750 or 850 DP holly
1 3/4 " 3" collector headers
4.10 gears
TH 350 trans
3500 stall
Also I think it will need to be a small base circle to clear the 6" h-beam rods

Pat Kelley Aug 13th, 04, 9:39 PM Were you thinking roller (hyd/solid), or FT (hyd/solid)?
I run the Comp 296AH-8 (http://www.compcams.com/Technical/Search/CamDetails.asp?PartNumber=12-342-4). With 11:1 CR is would be a good choice. With Speed Pro 817R hyd lifters, it pulls strong in my 350 to 7000 rpm. Your engine would see it as smaller but would still be a good choice.
1320 Aug 14th, 04, 2:16 AM Sorry I didn't mention it before. I am looking at solid flat tappit. I have a solid roller but the cost of buying the lifters and pushrods, and rockers to handle the spring pressures of the springs on my heads is going to cost a bundle. I already have some good roller rockers and pushrods that can handle the solid FT.
DEEBOO Aug 14th, 04, 11:16 AM Try one of Harolds 280/284F10. I have it in my SBC 400 it she was still pulling up to. Look ath the dyno sheets, plus I used the AFR 195 Heads.
SBC 400 DYNO (http://community.webshots.com/scripts/controlPanel.fcgi)
Pat Kelley Aug 14th, 04, 3:02 PM With 11:1 CR you need a bigger cam than a 280º. I'd look for one in the 292-298 range. Harold's cams seem to be excellent, I've never ran one. Don't forget, lash and rocker ratio need to be accounted for when going solid. They effect the duration and seat times as well as lift.
1320 Aug 18th, 04, 11:36 PM Anyone know how to get udharols tech line # at least I think he has one
Slowpoke70 Aug 19th, 04, 12:01 AM I think he's on vacation or something. Scroll down the main page in Performance and go back a few pages, he said he was going on vacation and left his tech line number but his associate would be answering th calls........
Here ya go, He went through all the trouble of posting and you didn't use the search option. :D ;) (just razzin' ya)

Scott_68_SS Aug 19th, 04, 12:02 AM 1-901-365-0950, He's out of town till next week, but you can ask for Steve.
My vote is for the 288/296 lobes
427L88 Aug 19th, 04, 9:46 AM I second that vote, only due to the 11:1, otherwise smaller might be better.

My vote is for the 288/296 lobes What is the rest of the specs on this cam? Thanks guys for your replys. Also is that grind already a small base or will I have to have a custom grind.
Scott_68_SS Aug 19th, 04, 1:05 PM They are all custom grinds with the UF lobes.
Harold posted a while back something about not needing small base circle FT's. Search his name.
050 200 tot lift
255 166 288 .612
263 273 296 .630
UDH also said he was coming out with a tight lash with same adv dur, but more 200 and lift.
Few months away IIRC
1320 Aug 23rd, 04, 1:03 AM How is that grind on the street and what stall would it need?
