I'm about to order a new oil pan and pickup from Summit. Say the pan is 7 inches deep. Does that mean I should get a pick-up for 7 inches deep, or should I get one that is only 6.5'' deep. Obviously I don't want it sucking the bottom of the pan, unless when you order the pickups they're a bit shorter for the pan they're supposed to go in. Thanks.

The manufacturer of the pan should tell you what pickup goes with it. If I recall correctly from an earlier post, you were looking at a Summit brand OEM style pan for you BBC? You have a Melling pump? If so, the 77S1 pickup goes with that. Either way, the folks at Summit will tell you what pickup goes with that pan.
