Did the 70 SS 396 (402) come with mufflers only or did it also come with the chambered exhaust system like the LS 6 had. Hopefully I have the terminologly correct. Looking to put the correct exhaust system on the car. See revised question below
Thanks Ray

No 1970 chevelles came with the chambered exhaust from the factory. It was discontinued as an option sometime prior to the model year. Could be an over the counter dealer or owner add-on though.

The chambered exhaust was dropped from regular production around April of 1969. It was still possible to order it in some areas of the country for the '69 models, but I don't believe it was available for 1970.

I think what I'm trying to ask is did the all SS come with the resonators on the rear extension of the exhaust. I've seem them on the LS6 cars, but not sure on a 402 model.

Ray, the 70 SS 396 I bought brand new came with resonators. It was a 350 HP car with Automatic. Don't know if all 70's came that way or if it was relative to HP and transmission.

Thanks that is what I have. That the answer I was looking for.

Ray,
All 70 Chevelle Super Sport cars with 396 or 454 engines came with the same exact exhaust system regardless of horsepower rating.
