Building a streetable 496(10:1,pump gas etc.)
I own (2)sets of heads that are ready to bolt on.One is a set of 781's with 2.19 intakes, the other is a set of Merlin rectangle ports with 2.25 intakes(these must be older heads because after giving the guys a merlins techline all the numbers off the head, the still could'nt identify the runner cc's).
Would either of these work well for this application? I keep thinking that one set is not enough and one is too much.Any advice would be appreciated.

I'd run the 781s if it was me. Those heads with 2.19" & 1.88" valves and good porting will put up some decent numbers for a pump-gas motor.

Thats kinda what I was thinking.Although,I spoke with a local performance guy that recommended I get the intake runners cc'd on the merlins and if they are 310cc use them, but if they are 345cc don't use them.I may just sell both sets and invest that money in some aftermarket oval ports.
Thanks for the input.

I believe the older merlin was 310cc from memory & I did a 496 boat engine with them with 10.0 & a hyd roller & it was very torquey, over 550 from 3000 to about 5000 as I recall & this was with a crappy single carb tunnel ram. Not my choice, he thought it "looked cool"
Just set the head up & pour the intake to make sure it isn't something else like a 320 or larger, it's real easy. You can even "borrow" something from the kitchen to measure them with, you don't have to be exact, you are just gettng a close idea of how big they are ;)
I think they will work very well on a 496 without any special work except "bolting them on" if they are the smaller ones & in good shape.
