OK, I want to put a Sirius radio system in my 70, but I really don't want the magnetic antenna stuck on the roof. I've heard that you can get reception with these on the dash, but what about under the dash pad? or in the A pillar? or stuck upside down under the headliner?
Will a satellite antenna get reception through the sheet metal in the roof if stuck upside down on the inside under the headliner???
anybody try hiding one?

as long as there is no metal above the antenna it will pick up inside. Under the dash pad with the antenna facing up (magnet side down) will be the best bet. sirius has more issues with the antenna being inside the car than xm. xm has more ground based repeaters, where sirius is mainly sat based.

I've seen them in front & rear windows on the dash or package shelf. Further north you go, less reception you get, mostly with XM.

I'm toying with doing it and if I do, I'll go for the package shelf

I have one on the bottom of my rear window inside my 72. There is a metal piece of trim that it sticks to. No one has ever noticed it without me pointing it out and i generally don't have any problems with reception. Of course the XM antenna in a little smaller that the sirius.

I've been somewhat disappointed with the reception with XM.
I tried the antenna on the dash, on the small shelf(mini package tray)on my elky and finally on the outside rear window lower molding. The outside of the car works best but with it on the rear it seems like the best reception is when I'm heading in a northernly direction. It's strange because I can get reception in the carport, but not in the shop. Traveling between the tall Southern pines or roads with live oaks arching across them will kill the reception as well as bridges or tall buildings.
I don't believe you will get any reception with the antenna under the dash pad.
I put up with my poor xm reception because on road trips it still beats the stock AM/FM by miles and the variety of programs is great. I have an XM reciever connected to my Pioneer CD/reciever and I can turn it up loud enough to hear even with the cutouts open!!!:D:thumbsup:
