I have a 72 chevelle that im about to buy. I want to drop in a 383 stroker that will pull a 11 sec quarter mile. Not slicked down if possible. I also wanted to run it on pump gas. I saw a 383 with 470 hp. Will that pull it??? Open to suggestions thanks. Brandon.

Whats slicked down??? If you dont wanna run slicks or drag radials dont waste your time. 11's is a huge challenge that most cant achieve with slicks, and you are just gonna wonder right in to the 11's..... The truth hurts man, you better find a lighter car or get serious.

470 HP will get elevens but you'll need slicks and a race weight no more than around 3400 lbs. The suspension will need to work right.

My 400 is right at the door to 11s. It made 440hp on the dyno and 500 ft/lbs. The car weighs 3625lbs with driver. IMO, the torque and broad power band are the key to why it runs so well. The car is strong from the hit and pulls hard through the gears. I would make sure you try to keep the car efficient. I use a turbo 350 and light weight wheels to make the most of the engines power. You will need a good set of tires to get there. I run quick time pros, but they are basicly street legal slicks. I don't think I could run near as fast on drag radials.
