Lots of people are running different cams of all kinds. What kind of combo are you asking about? BBC? SBC? Details!

Longterm your best investment is going to be a hyd roller.

Why do you say that cstraub?

Why do you say that cstraub?

Couple of reasons. The mfg of cam cores has changed. With the OEM engine platforms changing to hyd roller and SOHC and DOHC engines the ol' pushrod engine cams are not produced like they use to be. The same with flat lifters. Combine this with the sourcing of parts overseas for better cost it makes for a dangerous equation.

Then you have oil. Who knows what will be mandated by the government as far as what additives can be put into oil. Without some of these anti wear properties a flat tappet cam doesn't have a chance.

Combine the 2 above you may loose your flat tappet at break in. The cost of the cam and lifters, the cost of your time, the cost of tearing down the engine for inspection and cleaning will be more in the long run then running a hyd roller.

Hope this helps.
