Hi guys,i am preparing to install a new vinyl top on my 67 chevelle and have a number of issues to deal with. The car is an original paint car that sat outside, baking in the sun for many years. The sun baked the top right off the car and large areas of the roof are surface rusted from the exposure, its a western car,so no rot is evident. How should I go about prepping the roof, should the roof be painted first? If so,do I have to wait a certain amount of time after painting before the vinyl can be glued down.what should I treat the surface rust with, just sand it off and primer the roof?Or do I need to etch it or something. What glue should be used for the top?Ive also noticed the vinyl top I got from ausleys sure is shiny and seems to be much more "padded" than the original,Im no expert but the top doesnt seem super "correct".Another issue is the current temperatures here where i live, its winter and its pretty cool in the garage,am I going to have trouble doing a good job because the vinyl is stiff and less pliable than it would be in the summer ?How do I get the wrinkles out of the top?Any help much appreciated! Here is alink to some pictures of my roof on the car.
