: 64 Project
jds_06 Jan 7th, 08, 8:27 PM Hey all, I'm just found this site and thought i would put up my car.
This is my first project, and i think i'm taking on too much. If anyone has ideas, or knows where to get parts, please email me. I'm in Virginia right now, and the car is in Iowa. My navy enlistment is up in 2 more years, and that's when i'm going to start on the car. But i would like to figure a cost, and get some parts. Thanks.

64chevellecoupe Jan 7th, 08, 11:05 PM Whoa dude....frame is scary. I am working on my 64. Take a look at http://www.my64chevelle.com
John D Jan 7th, 08, 11:52 PM Welcome to the very best source of Chevelle info on the web!
1st & foremost start looking for a frame. From the pics yours has got some nasty rot in critical areas.
What about the front clip? Is the rad. support, fenders, hood, and grille/bumper a part of the deal on the car?
Floor pan rot is pretty advanced, how's the trunk floor, lower rear window corners?
(IMO, and not knowing your abilities/resources.... and taking into account this is your "1st project"..... I'd use this vehicle as a "parts car", and invest the $7K+ you're going to have to spend on it (just to get a good rolling chassis) and find a more solid starting point. From the pics you've got some nice "stuff" that can be sold or bartered off of this one. Not to be a Nay-Sayer, but I'd just hate to see you get discouraged starting off in this great hobby with a car that's going to take a LOT of work.)

jds_06 Jan 8th, 08, 5:33 AM The rest of the front end is in the back seat, and the trunk picture that is there, well...that is the gas tank that you can see through the trunk floor. i can almost stand in the trunk with my feet on the ground. From about 6 inches up, all the metal is good. The midwest salted roads didn't do to well with the bottom of the car. Thanks for the advice, i'll start looking for another car to build on.
67shovel Jan 8th, 08, 9:14 AM Not to rain on your parade, but I agree with John D. You would be better off starting with a solid car. You've got two years to save up and two years to hunt down a better project.
cromedss Jan 8th, 08, 8:23 PM Man and I thought mine was bad....I agree with the others. Find a solid foundation to start with or you will more than likely burn out.
kivaka Jan 8th, 08, 8:59 PM wow i didnt look close at all the photos, i wish the best of luck if you keep that car, my 4 door 64 has the normal 2in holes where the front floor pan and my truck has a hole size of 4in x 8in, and i picked up my car for 1200 on ebay its solid for the most part. i would take the best parts off that car and find a new one at least one with a better frame looks like that one has seen its day. the truck looks to far gone to try using the aftermarket trunk pans that you can weld in.
MalibuSeaS Jan 8th, 08, 9:23 PM I'm not sure of the exact figure, but it will cost you more to restore the car than the car will be worth when your finished. You should be able to find a nice 2 door (not to put 4 door cars down) by the time you start the restoration process. ;)
wills70 Jan 8th, 08, 9:26 PM Ya the guys are right again we just had a 64ss that was a little worse than yours and ended up saving some trim and cutting up the rest for junk. At the cost of these cars to restore today you would have to love this one. I'v got two on cardomain.com under wills68ss ones a #s 68ss and the other a 64 the 68 were at $14,000 and the 64 about $4,000 you just got to learn whats its really worth and only you can answer that good luck!
jds_06 Jan 9th, 08, 5:44 AM Thanks guys. I'm going to start the search again. In the meantime, if anyone needs parts, you know where to find me...lol.
