Would like some opinions of an average price to pay for a Muncie M-20 stated to be rebuilt.
Thanks.

I've seen them form $50 to $500. Some people think they are gold!

I think he means already rebuilt, not a core.

I from a reputable prefessional builder I'd guess 800 - 1000? for a '66 and up. I think I paid 800 about 4 years ago...

I paid $850 for a rebuilt M20 about 1 year ago - a 1968 Pontiac unit. It has a lot of new parts in it.

It has a lot of new parts in it /Rebuilt can mean many things in this world.

Unless its specified as completely rebuilt with all new bearing/gears/input staft/cluster gear/new main gears/syncos/sliders/seals/etc many times rebuilt means just replacing the badly worn and or broken part/s to bring the unit back to hopefully decent operating cond then sold as REBUILT.

In that case with only bad part/s & seals/syncro's/small parts replaced in your own trans trans is should be maybe $500-$600 for a moderate rebuild of your trans.

But if its completely rebuilt with all new componants without you supplying the doner muncie case/trans for rebuild it can easily be in the $1000-$1,300 + range for a high quality unit with a yr warrentee depending on application/date code/etc .

It can be little lower like $700-$1000 for a complete rebuild with all new parts if you supply the trans/case .

Keep in mind these are approx prices which will vary between builders for labor cost and also the price lvl quality wise for the new parts being intsalled when its a true complete rebuild with all new parts within reason.

I had the original #'s matching m20 in my 69 ss 396 COMPLETELY REBUILT/restored with all new parts approx a yr ago and it costs $850-$900 when all was said and done.

I got my M-20 for $400 with shifter. It too was advertised as recently rebuilt. Everything in the main case looks real good, but I found out that reverse/reverse idler was shredded. Something not typically shown since you have to remove the tail.

I still think that this was a good price, since reverse gears are about $50-$150 depending if they are new or used.

Keep your eyes peeled and you will find one for a decent price. I sat on my money for about 6 months before I finally bought it.

I paid $625 6months ago for mine with a shifter. $500-$800 seems to be the used price in my neck of the woods. $1000-$1400 from the re builder in Portland, OR.

That "rebuilt" part is open wide interpretation. My idea of rebuilt is a trans with a matching gear set if possible that is in good condition, a good case with tight counter shaft hole, a complete rebuild kit with counter shaft pin. A close inspection of the hubs, sliders and forks and careful assembly.
