: spin straight?

I don't know if this is possible, but I was wondering if there is a way to make rear stay planted and just spin in a straight line when an excess of throttle is applied?
yeah I know-- I couldn't figure out how to phrase it. I'd like to say the rear always jumps to the right, but last time I had it out, it did just the opposite. Is there something I can try to work out here to at least make it more predictable? This wasn't an issue so much with the ET streets because I only broke them loose once by getting on it too quick, but with street radials its a frequent occurence.
Its not that I can't just let off or correct it otherwise, but its certainly not efficent....
So if they are going to let loose, stop the rear from going the way it wants to?
Or do I get a sticker for worst question?

I think I know what you mean...fishtailing...If that is what you mean it is caused by unequal ground, steering, or another unequal force. I.e. tires will spin and the car will fishtail towards the side of the road that is lower(all other things equal). My experience of leaving large black stripes in the neighborhood has taught me to grip the wheel tightly and dont allow it to move because it can mean the difference between the road and the woods.

yeah thats it-- my brain is too young to forget words like that..
its not a bother on the street so much as at the track. I haven't been there on my radials in a while, but next time probably will be, and all I remember is how "fun" it is to try to keep the tires stuck to the ground..

Just one question....

Why are you using street radials/tires at the drag strip if you want good times? Or did I miss something? I'd say get some BFG drag radials....they kick arse! Also they aren't too expensive. Just my .02 But a 1.85 is a pretty good 60'.

Man, I thought that fishtailing was the fun part about driving these cars :D

Pre-loaded coil-overs or air shocks/bags and holding the steering wheel totally straight AND tight will go a long way in helping her go straight, imho..

I used to do the same thing until my buddy, "Nuts" told me the more fish-tail I did, the less I was going straight and quick!!

PS., as will setting "correct" rear tire air pressures for max. footprint too..

71 Chev,

I know you can catch alot of flak for hypothetical times, but unless I go to an IHRA strip I am pretty sure I would be into the roll bar zone with my small ET streets.
Since I am not installing one, I decided to change in what form I race the car.

Works for me..

With the correct use of airbag pressure, typically only one on the pass side, you can absolutely keep the car spinning, smoking 'em, in a dead straight line.

on an even track with all other things being the same...not on a road that has a crown to it
