Fathom Dec 29th, 99, 6:07 PM I am about to install a Mallory Unilite in a 70 SS. The manual says I need to ensure there is a Ballast resistor or Loom Resistance Wire between the Ignition Switch and the coil + terminal. How can I determine if the above exists? JWagner Dec 29th, 99, 8:17 PM The wire that your car had to the original coil positive terminal has "loom resistance" which is provided by a high resistance wire in the wiring harness. rick Dec 29th, 99, 8:23 PM Check the voltage at the connector for the + dist connection. It should be about 8-9 volts. In 70 the stock resistance wire dropped the voltage to a safe working level. Take a testlight, connect the aligator clip to ground. Touch the tip to the wire on the positive side of the coil. Check the voltage between the testlight tip and ground. If you have 9v the resistor is there. If you have battery volts, the resistor is not there. HTH | ||
