Hey Guys,
I need some information on the placement of the H-pipe in relationship to the mufflers. I have a 71 Chevelle with a 454 in it and I will be running 2 1/2" exhaust to the mufflers with 2 1/4" tail pipes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

pipe should be as close as it can be to the headers/collectors, and the crossover pipe should be no more then about an inch or two apart for the whole set up to be effective.

I'm confused. Isn't a crossover and H the same thing? I had one put on and it is right past the collectors. It has improved the sound and smoothness of my car.

A H-pipe is a crossover, but a crossover is not an H-pipe. A crossover can be various junctions, in a H form, X, indipendent x, etc.

Paint the exhaust pipes behind the collector...drive it for a bit....put the H pipe where the paint still is,right where it has quit burning off.
