I am wondering what your opinions are on aftermarket Iron heads for a 400 sbc? I’m thinking about either a Dart or World Products or Vortec. Not sure witch one. Have many of you-all ran either or all and what are something’s I should think about and look for?

This is what I am thinking about!

408 sbc (what I have now)
Scat 9000 crank (3.75 or 3.875?) (mine’s junk)
Scat I beam capscrew Rods (5.7 or 6?)
SRP forged flat tops or Sealed Power Hypers $$??
Lunati Part# 40135 SOLID cam??
@50=244/254
.532/.552
106 sep/102C/L
Heads???
Performer RPM
Holley 750 vac secnd

This will be in a '84 Elky, th350 built some , Eaton 3.42 posi. Just going to be a weekend street/strip toy !! How much machine/clearance work would need to be done to go with the longer stroke? Also what compresion would this be?Any suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks,

Dart 215 platinums. They are the latest version.
I'd like to see some independent flow bench #'s though.

I have a set of Dart Iron Eagle 180's. They really picked my 355 up as compared to GM heads.

I seen aand used both Dart and World...do the Darts. 200cc will be fine.

I lean towards the Darts also. They come out of the box with a better exhaust port than the Sportsmen II's.

Thanks for the advice! Now where is the best place to get some SP II or Dart's from? I have found them for SP II-$730 or Dart-$800 a pair assembled. Is this about right? I have heard some say that some places are putting some lower grade stuff in their heads so I don’t want to get something like that. Also how does the rest of my combo look to you-all??

Thanks!

Aslo what cc chamber should I go with? My block has been decked but I'm not sure if it's "0" decked or not. I'm planning on flat top's and would like to be at about 10.5-11 comp... Should I look in too 49,64, or 72 cc chambers? All I've got right now is the block so everything else I can change.

Thanks

Buy the Darts bare from Summit unless you can beat the price elsewhere. Have them assembled at a reputable local shop.

I got my dart iron eagles from a place online called flatlander racing. I was pretty happy with the service. I think the sticker on the box said "callies" which I heard was a pretty good place for getting them assembled.

A 200cc head is about as Large as you want to go with that Combo.

The cam choice looks good, the 106 LSA i like, but it might be tough to deal with in a street car.

Why not a Holley HP 950 or HP750?
