: TCNW get together this summer
Red Rocket Racing Jan 4th, 08, 10:24 AM I would like to have a TCNW party at my place this summer  Any excuse to have a party is good for me. I have 5 acres with tons of parking and a huge 5 bay shop with a lift so I have plenty of room and if needed work can be done as well. I do this every year with my diesel club and we average 100 trucks each year and it is a weekend event, people travel from several states.
If anyone has a idea on a good date with a local event (race/car show ect..) that is going on to bring people up to the area let me know. I like to plan ahead because of my racing and the back country horse trips my wife and I take the calender fills up quickly :D I have no problem with people camping at my place if needed. Give me your ideas and lets see if we can make this happen :beers:
OutCast Jan 4th, 08, 12:19 PM Count me in. The 68 should be rolling by then, no problem. I'd like to bring it down on a trailer, but it's no trailer queen. Just feel a little more at ease in the Duramax, in case I blow her up at the strip.
Is this something that could be arranged around a weekend at the track down there ?
I'll fill the trunk up with Canadian beer...just can't bring steaks or fish over the border.
Sounds like a great time.

kettbo Jan 4th, 08, 12:33 PM Hoss,
There is a pretty Fair show at Smokey Point near you. Last few years, has been on or about 20 May. 06 the weather was nice until 2pm. By 3pm it was POURING! IN 07, we had drizzles in the early morning, showers, then some of the heaviest rain I've seen up here. I slipped over to Doc Smokum's and he installed my 3-series posi and new gearset....plus had a few beverages and some bench racing with the Kid from Pullman/Seattle.
I understand the date has been moved to the right....not sure of the date, but I think early June. Ben has the date. This should be a good time to host with everybody from all over up in that neck of the woods.... The show is Sun so maybe a SAT Eve event and some camp-overs? Sure would beat the long drive up in the wee hours SUN then the drive back that afternoon.
Speaking of Ben, anybody else see this?

:noway: His car is famous, not him. Ben will tell you though that when I first saw it at the track, I told him everything I could find that was wrong or looked bad. :D He hated me from day 1. I figured we were 68 camino bro's but he thinks hes all better than me because its an "SS". :p
I would love to have another get together! Would be alot more fun this summer so I will have my car! The smokey point show would be perfect to center the get together around. Its in the beginning of summer and I graduate in the first week of May so it works out well for me! :hurray:
66 Buick Special Jan 4th, 08, 2:12 PM I guess I'll have to park down the block from the show since I don't have a Chevelle or Elky.:pout:
Hoss,
Thanks for volunteering to host a party, sounds like fun to me.

Keep it up and Ben will join the growing line of people that want to choke you out! :D
I looked again online for the 08 Smokey Point date....can't find it. Await word from Ben.
Found this, Ben said:
yeah, they finnaly gave up on that date for that show- next year will be second week in june.
The only events near me are the Ft Steilacoom gathering early in the summer, Memorial Weekend I recall. Some of the Aces guys were there....3-4 Chevelles only, a few Vettes, then a good selection of "all-others." The Town of Steilacoom show later, think August down on Sunnyside Beach is also pretty small.
gotago Jan 4th, 08, 2:32 PM I wish I'd be here, I'd even bring my DIESEL.
Wish I had time for you to give me a few pointers on how to make my rattle truck more efficient:thumbsup:
66 Buick Special Jan 4th, 08, 2:37 PM We need to talk Loader into pulling one of his big truck diesels and building a Funny Truck around it.
webfoot Jan 4th, 08, 2:38 PM I'd like to make it over there one of these days. I would be a mouse among rats though.
gotago Jan 4th, 08, 2:39 PM We need to talk Loader into pulling one of his big truck diesels and building a Funny Truck around it.
I wonder if the warrenty covers that:D
Brettd85 Jan 4th, 08, 2:51 PM I'd like to make it over there one of these days. I would be a mouse among rats though.
Nah, we have lots of mouses. George, Greg, and alot of 396 mini rats. I'm sure there are more. A 383 is only 13CI below a 396... I used to be a mouse, I wont pick on you. ;)
65lkey Jan 4th, 08, 2:55 PM there's the yesterday show in august, or ?????
kettbo Jan 4th, 08, 3:04 PM Yesterday's show is DesMoines......or at least it was for 07.
Lotta show date and locatiions have changed.....
Just the Smokey Point Show is close to Hoss in Arlington
Red Rocket Racing Jan 4th, 08, 3:25 PM Does this Smokey Point show draw a lot of the local TCNW guys?
I think that would be a cool time to do this but an all day car show does not leave much time for play. If the show is on Sunday maybe we could have a BBQ at my place on Saturday? The really local guys could just drive over and the guys who have to travel to the show could drive up and crash at my place on Saturday and go to the show on Sunday? I have plenty of room for trucks and trailers or whatever. I have a mother in law apt (my reloading room) with room for several sleeping bags and it has a couple couches in it. I also have a camper that could sleep a few people if anyone needed a place to stay for the night :boring:
I am up for whatever works best for the group :D I love sitting around the fire pit BSing till all hours :beers: or in the shop haning around the lift
If anyone gets a firm date for the show please let me know and maybe we can make this work!!
kettbo Jan 4th, 08, 3:45 PM Let me see....
Loader1 Mike trailered up from Aberdeen
gotago Mark drove from Yelm
I met them in Lakewood by I-5 then we convoyed to Everett. Met Frank, Loader1 unloaded at Frank's. The Kid showed-up and there were a few others for Bkfst. Doc Smokum and Roger FatTire were at the show. Ben showed-up without his car...just back from paintshop jail.
Since then, many more have joined the threads.
I think you talking of hosting SAT, shop open etc is the bomb. Show is always SUN. Makes the trip worthwhile for us So of Seattle and more so to So of Oly. Thing is....by then (2nd week of Jun???) it will be Racin' season......I gotta get the Elky into Cat 3 and try the Vette out.
65lkey Jan 4th, 08, 4:04 PM Yesterday's show is DesMoines......or at least it was for 07.

sounds like this year it's going to be in auburn.
RAMBO Jan 4th, 08, 4:39 PM Guys.... bunch of comments here....
#1... I own www.elcaminoclassics.com club website. I've run it for them for about 8 years, so I get to put my pic on there... Neener neener neener :p
#2... I "think" The smokey point show is gonna be Sunday June 15th- but i could be wrong and it might be Sunday June 7th.... I'll find out.
#3... if you guys wanted, the club always puts on a big pre-show bbq of some sort the saturday afternoon/eve before at the big state park up there- and everyone is welcome regardless of car or smell (so George & Mark are in as long as they bring beer)
#4... The show this year will be a lot "lower" key than it has in the past. We are working on more of a "cruise" in style show... Cheaper entry... the show "Time" a little later in the morning... eliminate some of the big trophy hoopla and make it a little more fun and cater a little more to the real folks with average cars who just want to cruise in and hang out for a couple hours rather than just the trophy hounds who come at 6:30 in the morning so they can win their best paint year after year after year.
I hadn't been active with that club in a long time, but then a freind of mine volunteered to be president for this next year, so i've been helping him and trying to make some changes.
The get together at my house on the 12th, is also going to be the first "new style" meeting for the elcamino club... trying to get their meetings out of the stupid bowling alley banquet room talking about business that nobody cares about, and back out into garages talking about our cars.... thats what a "meeting" should be. I figure no better way to show them what they should be doing, than to invite all you guys who already know how to have a good time. :D
Anyway... Thats my little take on that stuff...
Hmm.. speaking of all this, I gotta get some directions and stuff mailed out to y'all for my shindig... Sure hope a bunch of you can make it on the 12th!
Fat Tire Jan 4th, 08, 5:13 PM Ben,
I don't want to diss on the club or anything but I was at the show last year. I said I wouldn't go to another one after the way myself, as well as 2 other friends were treated by the folks we talked to when calling to try and join a couple years back. I will tell you about how it all played out some day.
Darryl talked me into coming to the Schwab show. I realize my Chevelle is a Pro Street version and nothing special but the way the Oregon guys would look and just shake their heads cutting it down as they voted started pissing me off. I've already got the trophy's and placards. That part of it is actually getting really old. Especially with the " Car Show Club Voting " that goes on. It's meeting all the guys and making friends with the same interests that I look forward to. BUT !!! don't cut down my car because it's not factory!!!! It's just a different preference. I tried to strike up a conversation with some of the Club guys and talk about their cars but they acted like I wasn't worthy to be part of their crowd.
I hope you can change this perception if that is all it is. I do apologize if I and both my buddy's got a bad first impression but even my girlfriend asked me why they were acting that way...
Just wanted to vent a little because I know you're not like that and would want to make things better.... Thanks for listening .. and do your best to make it like the guys are on this sight.....
RAMBO Jan 4th, 08, 5:53 PM Roger, I'm not offended at all, I know exactly what you are talking about- And some of that is a big reason that I had gotten away from the club... I was very active until about 5 years ago and basically left the group. I'm only coming back now because i finnaly see a chance for them to change... A lot of that has to do with people leaving the group and letting new blood have a chance at it.
There are all kinds of problems with the show itself- format, date, time, etc etc... and that is why we are trying to change the format to be more casual. If i get my way, there won't be any trophys....
The "show" this year should much more closely resemble a large cruise-in that will just happen to mostly be chevelles & elcaminos rather than a formal show. At least thats my vision for it, and at least a few other the other guys in the club share that idea.
There is no doubt that we will piss off a bunch of those "shake their heads at anything not factory" guys by eliminating the trophys, and they may not come back again- but honestly, for ever 5 of those guys who show up year after year, there are 10 who won't bring their cars because they don't feel they are "good enough" for a show- (partly because of the arseholes you mentioned who look down their nose at everything) and really, those guys and their cars are the ones i want to see and meet the owners... the real world cars that people are driving, wrenching on, and enjoying.
Anyway... Sorry that you had a sucky time last year...
Gimme another month or so to find out how many of the changes we may be able to push though, and I'll let you know if its worth giving it another try this year or not.
Roger I missed the Oregon show last year, is that when your car was there or are you talking about a show farther north? Dude as a fellow fat tire owner, YOUR CAR ROCKS!!. If I had been there I know you would have had at least 3 votes :D Please don't think all Oregon Chevelle owners are stuffed shirts like you described.
If you guys get a date set I'll try to drag one of my cars up there to play.
gotago Jan 4th, 08, 7:00 PM Ben,

And this is why I cut my floorboards, put in a TKO, stopped worrying about little scratches, and started racing. Shows are not fun anymore.
kettbo Jan 4th, 08, 7:40 PM And this is why I cut my floorboards, put in a TKO, stopped worrying about little scratches, and started racing. Shows are not fun anymore.
You cut the floorboards and put in the TKO and got the DRs 'cause you "wuz ascared" of the Elky........
Fat Tire Jan 4th, 08, 7:55 PM Ben,
That sounds great. You have the exact frame of mind that most of us have. One thing I can say, from experience, is that the Trophy's are nice the first couple shows but you really start to not care about that after awhile. I've actually given some away to some of the fellow rodders or their kids that were really into the cars. The funnest time we had was probably at the Wenatchee Apple Blossom show last year. We met some people that really loved cars and talking them. Young and old. We are going to meet this next year and do the Car Parade together. Let me say this to show the difference in what a show/gathering should be.....
We took first in our class last year....... Humbly, I felt plenty of other cars were more deserving. But..... as far as importance... I'm not sure where Linda put that award or if it got left in the garage some place. What I can show is the 3 Names and numbers of the guys that we met over there and are meeting this coming year for the parade. .. That is what this is about. That is the atmosphere that it seems like you are trying to get back to. I'm all in for that:hurray:...
As for trophy's... I don't mind them still being a part of the gathering, maybe change the categories ....
Stay away from the "Best of Show", "Most Original" and things like that. Go to " quickest 0-60 " or " Best First Date Ride " or " Funnest to Cruise ".. maybe even something for the H.S. Kids that want to be a part of this fun. These categories create talking and conversing among everybody. Plus the folks that don't have an extra $30,000 to put in their cars might want to come with their project and not feel out of place...
Jeff, Thanks for the kind words about the votes and all but like i said above... the voting wasn't my complaint. It was the " how stupid", "what a dumb-as+" and the Tsk tsk tsk's that bothered me. They even made comments to Linda when she was standing by the car not realizing she came in it. If it wasn't for Darryl, and meeting Frank, Bret and some others for the first time there... we would have left hours earlier. Yep, you notice all those guys and the rest, are all part of this NW Sight and that speaks for itself... Sorry for rambling .. Thanks been for not taking my comments the wrong way. I think you will make a difference with that club and I think you will have the backing from the rest of us here...
FRYNTYR Jan 4th, 08, 8:27 PM Nah, we have lots of mouses. George, Greg, and alot of 396 mini rats. I'm sure there are more. A 383 is only 13CI below a 396... I used to be a mouse, I wont pick on you. ;)
I have a couple small blocks too!!!! I do like my big blocks though but I can't dish my 350 welfare nova motor at all; It's ate a few bb's here and there. It'll take a bb to get to the next level though.
FRYNTYR Jan 4th, 08, 8:42 PM You cut the floorboards and put in the TKO and got the DRs 'cause you "wuz ascared" of the Elky........
WOW George!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pulling out the gloves hard,,,,I'm proud of ya. :D
FRYNTYR Jan 4th, 08, 8:47 PM I'm just glad it was raining when we showed up at the Smokey point show,,,,,they would have never let my chevelle in if they had a good shot of it. It's no show car but I have a blast running the piss out of it.
The fun we've all had this year will grow and hopefully more can join us on our bbq, and race adventures. I had so much fun hanging out with this group this year and look forward to 08. Real people, with down to earth attitudes. You're all the best.
If I keep this up, I'm gonna need a hug!!! :D :D :D Ok, where's Tammy.

Wow Darryls sensitive side:D I feel ya
When I bought my car I had no intention to ever show it.When I went down to the rod run last year I had more fun cruisin and didnt want to just sit there and have people look at the car.Its a driving car not a sitting and looking at it car.Racing is fun too. Im not into the #s matching thing as you cant have fun modifing and making it go faster which is what I believe hot rodding is all about. Its cool and all when you have a #s matching cant touch it cant drive it overpriced car that you can look at but its not for me.Ok I need to get that off my chest.
FRYNTYR Jan 4th, 08, 9:52 PM Numbers matching stuff,,,,,store it in the corner and throw something in it you can have a blast thrashing and not worry about ruining the value of it by blowing a #'s matching motor. Mark's a perfect example, I guarantee he has had way more fun thrashing his car than puttering aroung, grandma style.
FourEightyNine Jan 4th, 08, 9:56 PM When at a car show I dont care how rare or stock something is, I just walk right by it. I can always look on the internet later if I wanted to see something about it. I would rather see something different and something that stands out of the croud. Everyone knows that when a big crowd is growing something nasty is about to be started, not when someones stocker is.:hurray:
Also this is definitely a good group of guys, its gona be really cool if we can get a big row of chevelles/el caminos parked at the track. Hopefully we can find a date where everyone can make it, and its sunny out.
flink69SS Jan 4th, 08, 10:11 PM Roger- You're smarter than you look...JK
I think that is the reason I haven't attended a car show since.I think we had 4 or 5 69's but it was the guys in the 'Click" that got awards. I agree that it doesn't matter who gets a trophy but if you're not in the click, don't waste our time attitude was pretty bad.
Anyhow, when it comes to racing, it doesn't matter who you know or how original your car is, everyone is there to have fun.
We should boycott that show in Smokey Point and have our own BBQ at someones place.(Hoss)
That's it...Peace
Frank
justkyle Jan 4th, 08, 10:56 PM Hopefully I can find a date

That way I could go home with some hardware. :o :beers:

I do have the start of a 496 build... it isn't very far along, all I have is a block and a starter... probably won't get done till after the gto is finished.

Hahahahahaha.. Very funny:thumbsup:
Red Rocket Racing Jan 5th, 08, 1:10 AM I know the Napa in Arlington has a show each summer. There is also the one in Pioneer Park (I think it is Rusty Relics?) maybe one of these shows would work better for a all types of cars deal and be fun for all involved?
If you guys want to do this before/during or after the Smokey Point show that is cool with me

Only because someone took me for a ride in a BB chevelle and said "Spin her up and don't worry about it" or something like that. Cured me on the spot.
Besides, if I puttered around Grandma style, I'd be George:D

Hmmm....let's have a look-ee here,
Flat black paint...me too
Chevy 454 Turbo 400...I guess mine's more original, so you got me there
Chevy 10 bolt here...I know really sucks to be me
Trans Am buckets, a 10 pt cage, and no backseat...gotcha on that one ;)
No carpet or headliner here either...a draw.
Oh yeah, did I mention sheet metal door panels also ?
Damn bro, we got us some real ugly stuff goin' on.
Ok then. I gotta up the ante...
Let's see who can pick-up the scariest looking chick to ride with us... http://bestsmileys.com/scared/8.gif
We'll let the group decide on who wins.
I sure hope the concours and white glove guys don't show, they're liable to have a heart attack when they see our butchered rides ! http://bestsmileys.com/dead/3.gif

Ok,,,,I really don't think the welfare nova is a better looking ride than either of yours, at least your's are one color.
Flat black and extremely checked orange
one nasty door panel on the drivers side,,,non on the passenger side.
No interior less the awesome 20 year old plastic racing buckets.
Natural lightening of floor pan and trunk pan, free, unlike acid dipping.
Crusty old circle track car plexiglass recut to fit nova side windows
Little'ol hyper pistoned 350,,,,,,,7 cylinders.
Driver:homely,,,,,,now I'm really ahead.
As for picking up a ugly chick,,,,,I can't use Tammy, she's to cute and I don't think I can do anything bad enough to ruin her. I surely can't borrow an ugly chick, unless JIM_D would put a wig on and ride next to me,,,,(hey, more points for me there)
Finally, "Pretty Cool huh" sticker on the rear bumper.......... Smok'n ya both now. :D
66 Buick Special Jan 5th, 08, 10:45 AM Darryl, you forgot about the "speed curve."
The faster you go the less the ugly points count.
John, sorry, your cage adds "cool" points as does the "go-fast" rear seat delete option.
Plus... yours is a Chevelle! Mines just a wannabe.:p
gotago Jan 5th, 08, 11:15 AM I had a Buick once, I have to remember to bring a photo of it the next time I see you. Put a 100 dollar motor and tranny in it and ran it until the wheels fell off.
