Guys,
Need some assistance and this site was recommended. Purchased a 1947 Chevy pickup that had the body mounted onto a different frame. Was told that it was an A-body frame and drivetrain from a 1978 Cutlass. Well, three things have proven that wrong...First, the wheelbase doesn't match up...Appears to be 116". Secondly, it has four wheel drum brakes, which wasn't offered after 1972. And lastly, it has a 10 bolt, 8.2" rear end, which I believe was offered only up to 1972.

So, I believe that the chassis is actually from a 1968 to 1972 A-body vehicle....Now, can you help me verify that? What could I look for on the frame or drivetrain which would tell me what year vehicle I'm dealing with. I want to swap out the drums for disc brakes, but need to verify the year before ordering.

Any help would be appreciated,
Rick

Post a picture. I bet someones trained eye could tell ya pretty quick. Most people on here can tell an a-body frame from a mile away.

I thought 4 doors were 119" wheelbase and 2 doors were 116". Hmm, time to bust out the assembly manuals.

Bluegoose: Might want to check out www.Stovebolt.com as they are The Chevy Truck gurus. '47 Chevy's are right up their alley. Not that this site's not great. It is! But I have found networking several sites will get some fabulous results.

Have been to stovebolts, but this is kind of a rare setup using a cutlass frame.

I tried to get some pictures, but will need to wait until I can get it up on a lift. Can't get a good enough shot where you can really see the frame.

Thanks for the assistance guys,
Rick

For 68-72, the wheelbase was 112 for 2-doors and everything else is 116".

Yeah, I think JWagner is right on the wheelbase. My Chevelle measures ~112" from center wheel to center wheel. My chassis service manual says the 116" and 119" are for station wagons.

I always thought it was 116", oh well!
