: Power seat wiring.
Mike72ss Jan 2nd, 08, 7:23 PM I've been thinking about how I was going to wire a power bucket seat I have for my 72 Chevelle. I searched some old posts where I read the best way is to wire from the horn relay to a circuit breaker, then through the firewall to an accessory tap then to the seat power connector.
While this seems great, I would rather not drill a hole in my firewall for the new grommet that the wiring must pass through, since I don't think a power seat option was ever available on a 72 Chevelle (correct me if I'm wrong).
I was thinking that I could just connect the power seat directly to the spade connector labeled "power accsy" and replace the fuse with a 30A breaker.
Will this work o.k. I don't have any other power options such as windows or locks.
Sound like a plan or is there a better way without drilling holes in the firewall?
Thanks,
Mike

The ACC spade at the fuse box is for the radio and is already fused. Power seats draw a lot of current, so this would not be a good place to get power. Get power from the horn relay buss bar and use a relay if you want it switched (so the seats only work with key on, no relay needed if you want them to work all the time) Use the 30A breaker close to horn relay. If you don't want to drill a hole, you could use one of the open spots in the bulkhead connector. (this would be a lot of work though, and you need Packard 56 series terminals)

Gregg, The spade connector I am referring to is labeled "Power Accsy" and is at the very top left of the fuse box which currently has a 30A fuse, not the spade to the left of the 10A radio fuse labeled "ACC", if that matters.

Thomas, I am 99.9% sure that a power bucket seat was NOT an option on 71/72 Chevelles.

Elree Colby Jan 2nd, 08, 10:13 PM The same "Power Accsy" fuse/terminal was found on many Monte Carlos and was used for the power seat connection. If it were me I would run the additional feed from the horn relay. If you do use the Power Accsy keep the 30 A circuit protection, fuse or self resetting circuit breaker. The power seat will be well under 30 A.
Is it possible that your dash harness came from a Monte?

Thanks Elree, but if the power seat draws less than 30A should I drop down to a 20A or 10A to play it safe?
As far as the dash harness goes, my car originally came with warning lights and I have installed factory gauges so I switched to a guage harness.
My original warning light dash harness also has the same "power accsy" 30A fuse holder in the same top row left side location also.
Are you saying that not all 72 Chevelle dash harnesses have that fuse holder?
Thanks again, :)
Mike
Elree Colby Jan 3rd, 08, 10:55 PM Sure 20 A should be fine.
I looked at a few 72 harnesses, all have the POWER ACCSY fuse. None fo the 70 and 71s, that I looked at, have it.
