Here's the specs

454 - .060 over
781 heads pocket port - std valves
10:1 compression
4 speed - Wide ratio
3.70 gears
3800 LB car/truck (guesstimate '59 El Camino)
Run on pump gas (91 octane)

El Camino will have AC and power brakes
Week end cruiser
Looking for a hydraulic cam some lope to the cam

CompCams and machinist recommended 268H

.485 lift I/E
Intake O - 28* C - 60*
Exhaust O - 68* C - 20*

Using the DCR calculators the ends up with an 8.35 DCR which seems high to run on pump gas

Thanks for your help and sorry for the other post (fat fingered the keyboard) graemlins/clonk.gif

I have a Comp Cams 280H "K" Kit new in the box if you are interested. That cam would work well with your combo. graemlins/thumbsup.gif I have decided on an even bigger cam for my setup as it turns out. http://www.compcams.com/Technical/Catalogs/106-03/HTML/172-195.html

59 was the first year for El Camino. This is actually for a friend of mine and he's the original owner of the car/truck. I finished my description on another post. Please use it going forward. See http://www.chevelles.com/forum/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=4;t=018267

L78, you are aware that mr. 4 speed is using the Lunati/UD 280/88 to propel the cranberry barge to the 12's twisting a 2.73:1 rear cog.

427L88 I'm a little concerned about running the power brakes. On the Lunati site they state "canister may be needed for brakes". Any one out there running the 276/286? Any one have the specs on it (I'd like to calculate DCR on it)? Thanks

Rpol,

I've made well over 1000 276/286H12s for BBCs, and as far as I know, EVERY one of them worked power brakes with no problems. There is about 1"-1.5" less vacuum with the 280/288H12, and a corresponding increase in power. The operative word here is 'May'. That's put in for the rare customer who needs it......
With the 276/286H12 on 108 ICL, here is the timing: IVO 29° BTDC IVC 67° ABDC EVO 78° BBDC EVC 28° ATDC. The overlap is only 57°, and this is at .0045". Knock off 6° for the duration at .006", a la Comp Cams, and there's not much overlap there.
