I drove my chevelle a couple weeks ago and it was fine. Tried to start it last week and it started but then after a few seconds, it was sputtering and caughing and puffing allot of white smoke out the tail pipes. I was late going somewere so I just got in another car and started freaking out like I blew a piston ring in my 700 mile 396. This week I went out and turned it over and it idled fine for a few seconds, this time when it started getting rough I was looking at the carb and fuel was flowing out the top of the rear bowl at the needle and seat nut, then it dies. Is the bowl stuck or what, like I said it was fine one week and now this. I am still going to do a compression test because I have no idea why it was smoking like crazy, now I need to figure out what the deal with the carburetor is. I just hope that is the only problem. Thank you

Inspect/replace the crappy paper gaskets that seal the nut/screw assembly to the bowl?
