It's been a while since I took my roof rail stainless trim that holds the weather strip off in order to paint under there. Does the stainless trim install all the way back torward the inboard area of the car?
I can't remember how it lined up.
Does anyone know of any good weatherstrip install instructions? (specificly for a 66 Chevelle)

You should add a thin strip of sealer under the trim and then use the flat head screws to install. Use the indentions on the retainers from the original screws to locate them.

That's so logical.

Suppose to use grey strip caulk available at most auto parts stores. I use buytl tape for putting in windshields since I always have some around. I use that stuff allot while assembling cars. You can stretch it to a string and use it under the weather strip retainers. I also wrap dash screw threads with it to keeps the skeaks and rattles down. Another thin bead to attach door water shields and to seal any leaks or some small holes

Thanks for the advice. I can see where the screws originally were now, and the stainless is mounted much further away from the center of the car than what I thought. (looks like about 1/4 inch from pushed in all the way to center of car)
Wish they made the weatherstrip stainless adjustable after having the rubber installed. Oh well.....
One more thing, As I remember there was small steel bracket L shaped things that wear rubber coated also this stainless channel. Are these included with the weatherstripping, and were do they go.
Thanks again for the help!

Those brackets are not supplied. You need to reuse your old ones. Clean them up and coat them again by dipping in some black pliers grip coating. They mount right where your front and rear window meet up at the weather stripping. Helps the glass climb up and seal on the uppper weather strips. I didn't put mine back on and I'm sorry now. I have electric windows and I have to reach over and push out slightly to get the window all the way up and still seal.
