: What head gasket for low compression 396??

I am ready to put my heads on to buttom up the rest of the engine. I need around 8.0 to 8.5 to 1 compression. I currently have on the shelf a set of Fel-Pro 8180PT which are stock head gaskets. The pistons are .030" over Speed Pro L2240F-30 which give you a 8.34 to 1 compression with 119cc heads. I assume this is with a .025" deck height. My block has been decked .010". Need to have it this compression so I can run a 6-71 in the spring. Anyone know what compressed thickness the stock head gasket is? I was also looking at the FPP-1037 which has a .039" compressed thickness. I am wondering if the stock head gasket has this same thickness, just not with the steel wire ring. The heads are 1-781 and 1-049 casting, neither has been milled.

If it matters, the camshaft is a solid roller:
296/306 adv duration
240/250 at .050"
.567/.567" lift w/1.7 rockers
112 lobe sep/ 108 int centerline

If anyone has a DCR calculator can anyone help me out here? I ain't smart enough to run the durn thing!! :D

The DCR compression calc gets 8.44-1 with a 1037, 120cc and 21cc dome. I add 1-2 cc to the head for misc errors. Plug, ring land etc.

The DCR with that cam is 6.17.

I don't know a good boosted DCR or if I figured it correctly but I get a DCR of 9.5 w/ 8 lbs boost.

(14.7 + 8)/14.7 * 6.17 = 9.5

(14.7 + 8)/14.7 * 8.5 =13-1
13-1 DCR = 9.38
