I have heard it's best to clock the top ring and the oil ring expander so their gaps are 180 degrees from the thrust side of the piston. I'm building a BBC and didn't know this info when I installed the pistons. Instead I clocked all the oil ring expander gaps so they point toward the center of the motor. I can't remember exactly where I installed the top and second rings, but I do know they're 180 degrees apart. Is this going to be a problem?

No ;)
As long as you placed the oil ring rails about 90 degrees on either side of the expander gap.

Whew that's a relief, thanks Mike! The oil ring rails are staggered about 90 degrees apart from each other, so each is about 45 degrees off from the expander gap. I could have sworn this was the way the C&A instruction sheet had it printed. Does that sound right? Thanks for the help.

Yep,, 45-90 no big deal as long as one is on each side & not close to the expander gap.Only reason I use about 90 because it seems easier for me when I do them. ;)

And honestly they move around a bunch. Clocking them helps keep them from lining up.
