a friend of mine has a motor he is building or should say its about done we should have it fired this weekend.i had him tear it back down (top end) because of problems i saw.......he wasnt happy but oh well....this is pure race track 1/4 mile s-10 set up.......it will be driven to the track but thats about it.......
he bought a short block for 600 bucks from a parts dealer/racer he knows.......he put the motor together himself and called me over to check out his set up......this is what i found
-350 .060
-flat top 4 valve relief pistons
-crappy as hell .046 deck height i measured with dial indicator. found this out after i had him pull the heads off.
-he had on a .049" head gasket (ouch!)
-stock bottom end as far i know.
-heads are 186 casting w/ fresh 2.02/1.60 stainless valves.3-angle valve job. not ported.but are gasket matched on the intake side.with 64cc chambers.milled for clean up.
-compression was 9.19 to 1..he thought he had 11.0 to 1 at least....but it will be changed to 9.83 to 1 via steel shimmed head gaskets.
-big 1.5"+or- springs dual....lift good to .623 measured by me.....found out the machinist put in 7* keepers for retainers that are made for 10*
-full roller set up(1.6 rockers) with guide plates and harden push rods......found out all the intake roller rockers was riding the retainer not touching the valve tips!
-he thought he had a cam in the .580 lift range and i had him pull it because i told him we need to make sure what it is because the 1.6 rockers are sending him close to his limit for retainer/coil bind.
-cam is a solid elgin(E1090) 256/264@.050 with a lift of .537/.557 ground on a 106..... 3600-7200 range or there abouts couldnt find the actual cam range just compared the specs to other cam manufacturers with 106 ground cams with equal durations or close to.
-with 1.6 rocker .572/.594 will be lift
-intake is a single plain weiand
-carb is a 750 edelbrock
-stall is rated at about 4000 rpms by last owner so it should be around that. he bought the cam and stall from another drag racer he used both of these parts in his chevelle. so in the s-10 im thinking it will stall about 3000 to 3500 rpms.
anyway the combo is set as is......for lack of money.........
360 ci
9.83 to 1 comp
186 heads with 2.02/1.60 valves no porting
solid 256/264 @.050 with .572/.594 lift 106 ground ,1.6 roller rockers
single plain weiand
750 carb
s-10 headers
electric water pump/and fans
3000 plus or so stall
th350 rebuilt by me with shift kit
rearend will be a 4.11 or 4.10 cant remember what we are going to pick up. he has it but have to go get it.........
