I am looking into buying a new BBC block and I found that the GEN VI is basically what I am looking for. This is going into the Chevelle, and its going to be about 496cid, 600hp (N/A), hopefully, when I am done. Will the block be good for this kind of buildup? What are the pros/cons of this Gen as opposed to others? Should I buy, or stay clear?
Thanks for any input,
Chris

Some highlights of what I have found out regarding the GenVI.
You can use either GenVI or MrkIV heads on the GENVI - you have to check on which gasekt to use. Cam is GenVI type with retainer or MrkIV, but timing chain is limited to single (although very large) roller with stock timing cover. MrkIV cranks can be used with 2 pc. seal adapter. Stef's has it for about 90.00 or use 1 pc. rear seal crank. Oil pan is different. Recommended overbore is limited to .060 (per factory). GenVI takes standard flat tappet lifters, GenVI hyd roller lifters/retainers and most aftermarket roller lifters will clear the raised lifter bosses depending on the cam lobe lift and base circle of the cam.

You can use a gen IV cam and double row chain if you use a gen V cover. The gen V cover has to be drilled or you will have to drill the block. YOu can also use a Shafiroff aluminum cover which has the cam buttom made into it.
