http://www.chevellestuff.com then Other Decoding Stuff > Engine Stuff > Distributors then scroll down to 1970. Data are from old NCOA published information.

Date could be anywhere from a week to a couple of months prior to engine build date. Dates on parts are pretty much subjective.

I normally use the books, "Chevrolet by the numbers 1970-75" or "Chevrolet by the numbers 1965-69"... Don.

The #1111963 is the proper one for the LS-5 Engine in all its usage (except Corvette) and this includes the Monte SS454 and LS-5 Equipped Full size Chev, as well as Chevelle. It will not work for the Corvette which needed a Mechanical Tach drive distributor. As of yet, in 20 years in the parts business, all I have seen have been dated late 69, or Jan 15th,1970. I have yet to see a later date, and I have had the Jan 15th date several times. It is possible that no later date exists, since these things were produced in "lots" or "batches" on a particular date. Has anyone else ever documented a later date #1111963 ? My, point being, rvhaus, you may not be able to get real close in dates to the April build date of the car, and remember to lead the production of the engine assembly date. You will need to check that before you get one.

Here's another question, then. if the 396/350 auto is 1112000, what is the 396/350 4-sp # ??

The correct one for the 1970 402/350 with 4-speed is 1111999.
