im just wondering and would like some comments on this......i have read a few posts about the torker2 intake(single plane....very low rise) being put down as a bad flowing intake.......

i was wondering do you really think im going in the wrong direction putting this torker on my bbc that has a low rise cast iron intake?

my combo now is

bbc 396 with 10.2 compression with a 233/239 @.050 cam .551 lift.ported closed chambered heads 2.19/1.88 valves, roller tip rockers, very modified 3310,2600 stall th350, and i still have the low rise intake on with a 4 hole adapter for the holley..........

i have hood clearence issues and the torker was really my only choice since its rated just at 3" tall and i have 3.25" now in height with the low rise and spacer.......any other intake choices are to high and im not cutting my hood......or giving up my stock air cleaner assy....

i thought the torker 2 intake would be a better match to my engine combo since i run it at 6000 rpm at the track when i do go.......thought maybe i was giving some power up using the cast iron intake........

i was shooting to try and get my combo in the 2500-6500 range with parts being matched.........im sure the motor will pull more then 6000 rpms but have not had enough track time to see..........last time i was out the higher i was shifting the faster i was going thru the traps but i only got to 6000 rpms before my time was up.....it pulls very strong with no signs of slowing down yet at 6000 rpms......

i have the intake (torker 2) on the way and i hope i was heading in the right direction to get my combo closer matched......i have changed my 2100 stall to 2600 just a few weeks ago that helped out big time.........i also have another posi rear end in the garage getting ready to go in my car with 2.73 gears....taking out the 2.41 posi......(im stopping at 2.73 gears because this car sees alot of highway use)

I'd rather have a Torker on a BBC than a stock low rise cast iron intake.I've heard it isn't the greatest manifold, but every combo is different, and so is everyones performance goals/useage..I'd say run it,and please report back of any ET changes.I have one laying around, and sometimes wonder if its worth any ET or mph improvement over a peanut port Performer.

well mr 4 speed im changing three things ...so any improvement will be because of the three items im changing on the car so in this case the intake my help or i it may hurt and wont know......

since ive been to the track last..i have change the convertor from 2100 to a 2600(about 2 weeks ago)...it seems alot better down low now(tires break loose now with ease and i can send the car sideways at a rolling 20 mph before if the car was just moving and i punch it i really couldnt get a bark)....and i am changing my rear end gears(have rear end sitting in garage ready to go in) because i was low on the rpm range going thru the lights at the track.... crossing the finish line right at 5000 rpms....now i should be around 6000+ crossing the lights with the 2.73 gears......

then i figured i should try an alum intake(comming in the mail) to take a few lbs off the car and to better match the drive train........

i know the gears are lacking but i drive this car alot and i dont want to go much more for gear just to keep my rpms down......im trying to break into the solid 13.80's or so and then my mission will be complete........

after these changes i will have to tune it down in e.t. cause im done changing hard parts all my e.t. will have to come from carb jetting and timming.......i feel my combo is matched pretty well........

I think you are going in the right direction vs the stock, almost reverse-rise manifold if you can't fit a high rise manifold!

But remember that the torquer is generally a 2500 to 6000rpm or so manifold..

that was a plus when i saw it was a 2500-6500 rpm range.the cam i have has a rated 2500-6500 power range and with me buying a stall with 2600 power brake stall i think things are comming together.

Here's some info you might find interesting. It is from a early-mid 80's "Engines" magazine.

454ci, isky 286 hydraulic cam (224@.050, .510 lift single pattern, 108 lsa), TRW 2377 forged flat top pistons giving 8.2-1 compression with open chamber oval port heads that was pocket ported and have 2.19/1.84 valves, 1 3/4" headers, and a 850 vac secondary holley. They tested this with the performer 2-O 2161 and torker 2-O 2740.

Performer Torker
RPM.....TQ......HP TQ....HP
------------------ --------
2250 469 214..... 423 191
2750 492 265..... 474 256
3250 506* 319..... 483 303
3750 501 363..... 486 346
4250 499 407..... 497* 406
4750 467 429*.... 483 433*
5250 448 416..... 432 421

The performer looks like the better choice to me...

well guys i got the intake on and going.........boy what a difference....it really woke the engine up...........i didnt change nothing on the carb but drill the butterflies alittle bigger then what they was......and i set the timming right back to what it was.....

with that 2.41 posi i can sit at a stop sign and punch the gas peddle and it will light them up for and easy 1/2 block with smoke rolling......lol

way better then before......and on an open road it really revs to 6000 rpms with ease......i can feel in my seat of the pants that it is much stronger pulling.........

the only down fall right now is it is slightly soggy under 1000 rpms then before but i think i can tune it to be alittle more crisp with some timming recurving and carb adjustments with the squirters cam and size of squiter

all in all i do feel more power being made over the stock cast iron low rise intake......

to bad the track is closed ...lol

but then again i do have the 2.73 gears going in next weekend or so........
