: LS-6 Pistons?

I have these pistons in my 454, they were listed as LS-6 replacements. Ran into a car guy, has a clone Motion Camaro 427 and we started talking about my 454. He's telling me with my setup, my compression has got to be into the 10's. I'm not at all familiar with the LS-6 pistons(which are in my engine) and how much of a dome they have. Anyone know?

My quench is about 43, bore is 4.31 and a 4 inch stroke.

Here's the specs on the pistons from TRW:

TRW-L2399F60 Piston Specifications:
* Bore: 4.310 in.
* Stroke: 4.00 in.
* Rod length: 6.135 in.
* Compression ratio: 9.63:1 (109.4cc heads)
* Head type: .095 in. Dome
* Oversize: .060 in.
* Ring size: 5/64 in. top/second ring, 3/16 in. oil control ring
* Weight: 693 grams
* For 454 (LS6) with open chamber heads

Here's a pic of the pistons. Do they look like the original LS-6's or is the dome shorter?

Depends on the cylinder head. Those pistons only produce about 9/1 with an open chamber head. To many other variables also.

..those are not original LS6 style pistons..I actually have a set (from an original LS6) and the dome is .270
Those pistons you have are a .095 dome

I think you'll find that the L2399 is a 1971 LS6 piston.

Cable,2399's can be indeed used with closed chamber heads

Yes they can just be sure to check your piston to valve clearance.
Check it throughout the entire engine cycle, cause it's not only at top dead center where you need the .100 min. clearance, you need it throughout the whole cycle.
Dont find out the hard way you didnt have enough, get a dial indicator and check it.

FYI,my motor has the .100 dome hypertectic version of the 2399 and I run closed chamber #215 heads and my piston to deck height is .008
I had to do nothing to use these pistons

..1970 LS5 engines had the small dome from the factory with closed chamber 290 heads...

the .095-.100 dome works with either open or closed chamber
