Had to make a late run to the store last night, around 10.30. i get back on the freeway and there is this nut standing dead center of the lane waving his hands. no car broke down, nobody else around, just him in the middle of the freeway in 40 degree weather in a t shirt. didnt even see him till he was in my headlights 200 ft away. had to hit the shoulder and the ditch to miss him. called 911. guess the guy had a death wish, maybe not? . wish i new the whole story.

Isn't it a shame that we have to fear the worst in these situations instead of stopping to see what the problem is? I wouldn't have stopped either because of all the nut cases out there these days, but would not be able to get it out of my head that someone could have really been in need. At lease you made a phone call to get help there if he needed it. I'm sure everything worked out in the end.

Stay safe,
Dave

Thats scarey. A week or two ago, we had a pedestrian hit at 4:30am on the highway. A few miles back they found the guys car with a suicide note in it. He jumped in front of a semi, and then was hit by multiple cars after. They pretty much put him in 5 gallon buckets to get his remains out of there. Really ticked me off too, if you want to take the chicken way out of your problems walk out into the woods with a gun and let the coyotes clean up the mess, instead this guy decides to jump out into the highway two weeks before christmas and now all those vehicles that hit him have to think about that through the holidays even though they did nothing wrong.

I missed a guy by literally an inch. No time to brake, jerked the wheel and had the car sliding about 45 degrees one way. then back the other. In the split second I saw him, I was certain I was going to kill him. He was wearing dark clothes walking down the very center of my exit lane on a moonless night. I usually drive about 55-60 on the interstate, which is slower than most. Anyone else I am certain would have creamed him.

Backed up and asked him what is going on, He says "I sorry, I sorry, I's hitchhiking."

It was probably Cheney, off his meds for the holidays.

Noooo, it was Bill trying to get away from Shrillary, or as we say around here, The Hildebeast, "Her Thighness". :D

I had a kid in my grade hit this year. Some other kids ( all drunk) thought it would be funny to throw him out and let him walk home drunk. Got creamed by another school mates father. Right in the middle of the highway.

You've got to always be vigilant out on the road. I had the whole family in the Durango tonight and got to test out the new tires and ABS system on it. Some lady pulled out of a 7Eleven into the middle lane where I was. Speed limit is 45 on that stretch of road, got within about 2 feet of her. Didn't have a whole lot of nice things to say when she took the next turnoff. I must say, though, the ABS does work nicely, just held the pedal down, let it do it's work.

This website is very interesting and disturbing at the same time.
