I've got the MSD HEI/6AL setup, and I was checking the advance today. I noticed that w/o the vaccum adv. hooked up, I was getting 38 degrees total timing. W/vaccum, about 50 degrees. Does this sound right? My base timing is 17~18 degrees. I cant seem to get her to idle decent below 900~100rpm. W/my combo what kind of decent idle rpms should I expect to get?

sounds lean.how far open are your throttle plates? is your secondary plates open a little so your not on the transition circut?
