Guess I shouldn't whine about self inflicted wounds; got my 10 (soon to be 11) year old son a drum set for Christmas. He lit up like a lightbulb this morning when he came down the steps and saw it. With him the drummer, and my daughter as the bass player, I think the days of peace & quiet will be long gone. Oh well, a noisy house is a happy house :)

Merry Christmas one & all!

Merry Christmas to you, as well, Sid! When my son was 9 or 10, we did the same. We were lucky, however. He soon migrated over to guitar and could practice with head phones! Heh. He's 24 now and still does some "gigs" with his buddies.

Sid, you can get those rubber mat mufflers for the drum kit, you'll both appreciate it. ;)

Sid, be sure that he has ear protection when he plays. I was a drummer and didn't, and that's one of the reasons (besides guns, race cars, and a loud shop) I don't hear well now.:( I can remember having pain in my ears for a full day after one really loud jam session.
I don't know how my folks put up with all the noise for those years.

want to see something neat, when you watch him sit off to the side where he has to turn a little to see if you are looking he knows you are but has to look anyway :D . keep a close watch on him for the faces he makes and some of the moves . My grandson is 10 now when he was 9 he got a guitar I will never forget the moves and faces he made. We always clap when he is done each set ;) Isnt life great

For future refrence you could have got an electronic set (They sound really nice) & then your son can just wear headphones or turn the volume down on the amp.
