Thinking of selling my 70 and going back to a car I can actually drive. Anyway can you guys help me with price? I am not even sure if I will sell it. Anyway, it is a 70, monaco orange with blk stripes. Merlin III 540 with less than 1000 mi on it. Hydraulic roller cam, protopline Aluminum heads, mahle forged pistons, Callies dragonslayer crank, hooker supercomp jet-hot coated 2" headers, holley 950 hp. Car also has all new suspension parts front and rear, new steering components including an AGR box, hydroboost, flowmaster AMerican Thunder 3" system. Pro built TH400. Interior is mainly new, paint is 3 yrs old and is great driver quaility. New tires all the way around. Car is a street car as it sits. Only mechanical issue is I have to re-hookup the dome light. Oh yes, the car was rewired completely with painless harness.
Pics are in showroom if you guys want to view.

I do not have a build sheet, it is an Arlington car. I do believe it is an SS due to suspension and I know it has the original SS dash. So no it is not a documented SS. Thanks for the coments.

hi joe; this is dave in milwaukee with the champagne gold 70. i finally got her done in august this year. check out the pics below. i'm sorry to hear that you are thinking about selling your car. i decided not to go stock on the motor that was going in my car as well. i had a 454 built to about 500 hp. it is still very streetable though. your motor sounds like it's around 650-700 hp. unless you go down to da grove a lot,i think the high horsepower motors get old real fast. i knew early on that mine would be mostly street driven,so i think i made the right choice. rather than sell your car,you could just sell the motor and buy another more streetable crate motor or have one built. good luck in what you decide.

regards, dave

Hi Dave,
I don't have a problem with the 540, I have a problem with collector car insurance and not even being able to drive my car to work once a week for a few hrs! Car is great!

I worry about mine in my work parking lot when I drive it. I also hate driving it in the rush our traffic. Hagarty Insurance is a great deal. They let you go 1500 miles a year but they never check your odometer.

I have hagerty and they are the ones who say NO DRIVING TO WORK! Also not letting the car sit unattended would also fit in that category.

Why would you want to do either?

Drive that puppy. They were made to drive. Not sit in a gagage and a show every once in while. Drive it to work and if something happens tell them you were off work and drove it down to pick something up. Put lo-jack on it so you don't have to worry about it all the time. Just remember you restored it once it can be done again if neccesary. But drive it. That was my dream for buying a 70 and I'm driveing it. If something happens, me and the insurance can argue later. Their not killing my dream. Drive, drive, and drive some more. I go get ice cream, pick up pizza's, go to cruise in's and just cruise on warm summer nights. Just drive it. Car club meetings. Chevell-a-bration. Just drive. Don't sell. My cars value is nothing compared to how happy it makes me. I smile when I drive it. Live the dream. Drive it!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Joe,
Very sweet Chevelle you have there!
I've thought of doing the same thing at times.
When I take the Chevelle out and realize how many 's up I get while going down the road, that idea of selling completely goes out of my head. :D
Alot of people think of selling during this time of year because they see it just sitting there during the winter, and they can't drive em.
I would say keep your Chevelle at least until spring when you can get it back out for a drive. If after that you still want to sell, then go for it. ;)
Good luck in your decision Joe!

My convertible is a frame off (it's a garage queen) :boring:. The hardtop needs some TLC (it's my
daily driver):disco:. I am having so much more fun with the hardtop. I'm sorry, but I don't know the value
of your '70. Nice car though. :clonk:

You say there is no way to prove if it's an SS or not, so that's a moot point. It's a great looking car with a bunch of great upgrades, which obvioulsy aren't original. Having said that, I'd say you could ask $25 - 30,000 no problem, IMHO. Tell any potential buyer to try and build one for less.

Have you checked into seeing how much it would be to add the Chevelle onto you regular insurance (Grand Prix insurance)? It's usaually pretty cheap and they don't care about miles, but the agreed upon value usually doesn't happen. They will only insure you for a '70 Chevelle/Malibu, but as long as you don't wreck, what's it matter?

I had "regular" full coverage insur. on my first Chevelle with All State insur. along time ago. They agreed to insur it for the apprasied value, with no mileage limit.
Have you tried Grundy insur. http://www.grundy.com/

My 69 is fully insured through State Farm and I pay less than $50/month. They don't care how much I drive it or where its parked.

I did check into state farm. They said I could do agreed value only with an appraisal. I am just affraid of what an appraiser would say.

Twins Fan....I was thinking $28000 would sell it no problem. Good call and thanks for the advice.

That car should bring 30K (or even more during/after BJ) easily. I would not take any less for that car assuming it's really as nice as it looks in the pictures.

I have a stated value policy with Safeco. Can drive anywhere, no mileage bs, and nomatter what happens to it or how it happens or where it happens, I'm covered. Hit a deer this summer, they didn't even come to look at it, just faxed them an estimate and they sent the check. Very happy with them. Only $300 for the year, $25k stated value. Thats a great car, if you sell it make sure its for the right reason or you might regret it. Good luck.

.

Hey Joe
Do a search on Brewcitymuscle.com for a local appraiser. I think they listed a bunch of them recently. You ought to be able to find a decent one in the area.

I don't have a problem with the 540, I have a problem with collector car insurance and not even being able to drive my car to work once a week for a few hrs! Car is great! Get a beater to drive, why chance some idiot hitting and ruining your baby. Their are way more of them than you think. I live for the day when they have to test like a private pilot does.

Twins Fan....I was thinking $28000 would sell it no problem. Good call and thanks for the advice. I wouldn't insure a wagon with State Farm. Total "richards", in my opinion. My mom had them for many years and they cancelled her after a couple of minor speeding tickets, in town no less.
