: New interior...who has best quality and best prices
obseSSed Dec 24th, 07, 3:38 PM I'm thinking about redoing my seats, door panels, and dash this winter and I was wondering who has the best products and the best prices. I need new foam, seat coverings, door panels and dash bezel. Mine are all stock and are really beginning to show their age. My driver seat has a rip in it and the door panels are beginning to show their age. I've seen some really nice interiors at the shows and I really feel mine is in need of refurbishing.
greg5436 Dec 24th, 07, 5:04 PM i just installed some legendary seat covers and door panels in a 69 coupe.the seat covers look better than any i have seen. the door panels are twice as thick as any other brand.i have had opg and pui.these cost more but are well worth it. greg
Jeff74 Dec 24th, 07, 10:06 PM do you want good product or good price? the pui is cheeper but legendary are correct.
70 Gold Nugget Dec 24th, 07, 10:29 PM Just did a 79 Camaro for a customer...PUI panels and covers...cover quality and fit was excellent this time...a little couple of foibles sewing wise on the back covers (cloth horseshoe + sewing person in to big of a hurry) but they'll pass I guess...the door panels are where I have my biggest complaint...customer ordered preassembleds for 379 bucks...I wanted to put them together myself but we couldn't get deluxe that way...door panel is definately different than factory but I made it work (an amateur couldn't have finished off these panels without screwing them up I guarentee it)...on one panel they didn't pull the vinyl tight in a certain spot and so it was screwed up...that panel did not come with the window trim piece either...sloppy sloppy sloppy for something retailing at almost $400...NPD said we will send you some new ones so that was fantastic but we didn't have time for that crap and the owner can live it so it goes...total cost of everything for the inside of this Camaro...and I mean he bought practically every interior piece new...$2300...I installed it for $600...BIG BUCKS but it is a nice car..new crate motor new tranny new paint etc...
ACC carpet fit and quality was fantastic boys...NPD's idea of factory colors leaves a little to be desired however...
obseSSed Dec 25th, 07, 10:38 AM I have always heard that PUI was the best. I have never heard of Legendary products. Who sells the Legendary and how much more are they?
MalibuSeaS Dec 25th, 07, 11:04 AM do you want good product or good price? the pui is cheeper but legendary are correct.
IMO a PUI interior is fine for a daily driver but Legendary for a show car. ;)
chevelledude71 Dec 25th, 07, 12:08 PM I used PUI in my car and it's been in for 3 years now. This NC heat is torture on cars, but my black interior hasn't shown any wear. Mind you, my car doesn't get driven, or ridden in as much as I like, but it's still in great shape. The door panels especially, since they are "touched" more than anything. Just a few cleanings a month, regardless of how many times I've driven it and they still shine.

I agree with that statement completely and would add that if you have a really nice car or you have some high dollar car like a LS6 or you just want to ensure that you get something that is top flight go with the Legendary stuff...hopefully their product will never get sloppy...
Jim Mac Dec 25th, 07, 9:03 PM I just did my 70 with the pui stuff, I had no complaints, but Im really not too picky. car is a driver, I just wanted something more fresh. jim
Freddy Mercado Dec 25th, 07, 9:43 PM Where can we find Legendary? Is it on the internet? Who sells it??
BlueSS454 Dec 25th, 07, 10:27 PM http://www.legendaryautointeriors.com/
You can deal with them direct. I bought the headliner for the Charger from them, I am very pleased with it. I put the PUI stuff in my 70 when I did it 7 years ago, the convertible is getting all Legendary pieces, much nicer and correct.
GotSpray Dec 25th, 07, 10:46 PM Legendary products:thumbsup:
Jeff74 Dec 26th, 07, 12:23 AM on 69 and 70 you can tell a pui from a legendary from 10 feet away the other years not much differance in appearance
OLDED Dec 27th, 07, 4:09 PM I don't see where his original question was ever answered - where are the best prices and quality? The quality issue got well explained but not prices..... Can someone fill in the blanks for him (and me)? Thanks, OLDED
SethT Dec 27th, 07, 4:28 PM tagged for valuable info.
Bunz-T Dec 27th, 07, 4:34 PM Maybe this will help.
Legendary Seats and Panels $989
Ground Up/PUI $565
Ground Up Super Kit $1019
Legendary Seats/Panels W/
Everything else in Super Kit $1750
As you can see value can be determined in a lot of ways and your build will answer that. For me I will need everything in the "Super Kit". I have to decide is it worth the extra $750. I am going to build a nice car but where I live we do not have a lot of car related functions. To enjoy 'em we have to drive 'em and that money will be better spent making the factory A/C correct and functional. If I lived in the Midwest or Northeast with so many places to expose my car I would go the other way. Those guys are so picky.

Best Prices??? There are so many places out there, its hard to determine where the "best " price is...
Also adding to the confusion, is that most suppliers "kits" don't include all the same pieces...
I have ended up making spread sheets using each manufacturers Kits, and adding the extras needed to build a complete interior for my project (my '70 Malibu is the latest).
I checked between OPGI, Ground Up and Hinshaws (I have fairly current catalogs for those places)...
I think GU and Hinshaws carry PUI... I guess GU also carrys Legendary, but I haven't seen any prices yet...
Anyway,
for a relatively "complete" interior (includes all "colored" pieces, because I was doing a color change), Hinshaws seemed to be the best price, even with a "TC discount"... I think I was looking at somewhere around $1200 (seats/headliner/dash pad/seat foam/seat backs/door panels/arm rests/package shelf, etc)...
I suggest picking up a few catalogs and spending an evening going over the kits and pricing.
I have to decide is it worth the extra $750 (for Legedary).
I agree, and I now have the same dilemna... I realize my current seats have been reupholstered (no seat medalians), but otherwise I wouldn't have known... Not only will I not be showing my car for "points", but it is not a "stock" car anyway, or some rare original piece (a Malibu with an SS hood, etc)...
Another thing to consider; While the PUI covers are "supposedly" incorrect, there are very few originals out there, and very few with Legendary (didn't Legendary only recently come out with Chevelle covers?)... So unless you have an anal "originality" lover judging your car, the Legendary are going to look incorrect, just because of the shear numbers of PUI and other covers out there for YEARS on the market... I'd estimate that 95% of all the "stock" interiored Chevelles at most shows will have one of the "incorrect" brands... Therefore, while technically incorrect, it will look more "correct" to the general public...
I guess it comes down to who is going to be judging your car... Knowledgible "1970 expert", maybe go with the Legendary... Local shows, cruise nights or "general" knowledge judges, then go with what you can justify... And an additional $750 is alot...
bully70SS Dec 29th, 07, 1:35 AM I have used PUI & Legendary, I liked the Legendary so much I became dealer. The Legendary has the best QUALITY but is expensive. What are you going to do with the car? How long are you going to keep it? If you are going to shows or plan on keeping the car a long time, I'd go with Legendary. They have a LIFETIME WARRANTY for as long as you own the car. Nobody talks about the warranty when they talk about the cost.
Let me know what you need and I can save you a few dollars.
I'll Have a set of 70 & 71/72 black bucket seats listed on ebay this weekend.
jnkbullock@peoplepc.com or go to legendaryautointeriors.com
Is there a way to post pics?? wanted to post pictures of my seats after before and after I recovered.
Derek69SS Dec 29th, 07, 11:54 AM I just ordered from legendary 5 minutes ago... If you hurry, they have a 10% off sale going on that ends TODAY. :)
obseSSed Dec 30th, 07, 2:37 PM Thanks everyone.....It looks like I would spend the extra for the Legendary. It sounds like it is much better quality and if it is like most everything else....you get what you pay for. I really appreciate everyones input.....have a Happy :beers:
FlameOut Dec 30th, 07, 5:05 PM I ordered my front Legendary bucket covers (for a 67) on Dec 12th, was wondering what was taking so long, and was told they won't ship until sometime after Jan 10. Got a really good price, and can't wait till they arrive! BTW, ordered them through GroundUp, and they are being drop shipped from Legendary
