I lost my best friend this morning at 115am. She was a yellow lab that was going on 15. She lived a fantastic life with us. We got her as a pup, shortly after we moved into our home. She's been here since the birth of our 11 year old daughter. We are not sure what happened, but she passed away while I was with her. Rest in peace Carlee, you can swim, eat, and chase frisbee's to your hearts content now. Daren

Daren,
Being a veterinarian of 15 years I can say that I lose a part of myself every time one of my patients pass on, many times in my arms. I don't know your dog but yet I feel I do, in all the beautiful pets I treat every day and my own 13 year old. I was shedding tears before I even finished reading what you wrote. Carlee will do fine. I know many others up there that are always waiting for a new friend to play with.

So very sorry to hear about that Darren.

I've been hearing about a book called 'Rescuing Sprite' by Mark Levin. All about the love and loss of a dog. From what I've heard, it will help you through the process and is highly recommended.

Sorry for your loss Daren. Lots of pets needing homes out there and I think it can help with the weathering the sadness of losing a member of the family.

Sorry to read about your loss. I know the bond between a dog and his "master" can be very strong. Good luck....

I'm really sorry to hear this terrible news.. I lost my BUTCH a few yrs back and I couldn't come out of the house for three day's because all I did was cry..We went out and replaced him with-in the 1st week because the house felt so empty. We love this dog as well but no dog will be the same as my butch was. What helped me was,I knew in my heart he lived a great life and had the best parents that a dog could ever ask for.Hang in there and remember the good times.Bill

Daren;

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. I've been a dog owner since I was a kid, and the pain of losing a pet never gets any easier to bear.

I've said this for years, and it's worth repeating again: "mankind could learn a lot about love and loyalty from a dog."

It may not be much, but try to take comfort in the fact that you gave your dog the best gift you could give. Love.

Eric

I feel your pain. It's been about 2 years since I lost my "big furry girl" (she was 12) and as much as I want another, I can't do it yet. They're some big shoes to fill.

Sorry for your loss.

Thanks so much for the kind words. When we get her ashes back we will take them to Lake Huron, where we have so many great memories, and either bury her ashes, or let them go in the water. Everyone has been so kind, I really didn't want Christmas Eve to be like this. but this day will always be hers now. Thanks, again. Daren

A lab, let her go in the water. You're lucky to have had such a great dog for so many years. I'm sure she was lucky to have you too.

Been by here earlier AND I'm sorry for your loss..

Know all about losing a "4-legged" son or daughter...

I've cried my eye's out at 2:00 AM chopping a hole in the frozen ground w/ an ax to bury our old barn-cat, "Mama Cat", when I was a kid out on the farm...

TRUST ME WHEN I TELL YOU i know how u feel. i lost my beagle/ jack rousell mix wishbone a few weeks back. he was hit by a car. ive had him since i was 9 years old. im 19 now. i know hes happy for me, and hes waiting patiently until we can play again.

i came across some old photos of me and him today... needless to say i miss him.

at the very least, i am greatful that he didnt feel any pain when he passed. his body was all in one piece so im happy that he was not mangled or anything... i would have taken that A LOT HARDER.. he was and still is my best buddy. i have his ashes so he can be with me in some way. i still talk to him in my head and sometimes out loud. im not going to let his memory fade one bit. stay strong and know that ur buddy and mine are probably meeting eachother for the first time and they are probably tearing up all kinds of toys.

The worst, so sorry man. We lost our 12 year old cat that was the coolest 25 lb cat, we cryed for days. Than the next year we lose our 10 year old dog, just as bad. We still have Rocky a mix Golden Lab that we cherish and hope he stays around, now at 8 yrs.

Sorry about your loss. I have a 15 year old Rat Terrier that is really start to show her age. She gets to sleep in the house every night now, it's gonna kill me when she's not around anymore. She was still able to kill a couple of mice a few days ago, I think she did it entirely by smell.
Those doggies sure do get to be a huge part of the faimily. They really are man's best friend. Josh

I am so sorry about the loss of your friend. It's so tough when they leave us. They ARE part of the family AND a huge part of our lives. In August, my son and I had to put his Maine Coon, Cutie, to sleep after 18 years. She was part of his life since he was 6, so he wanted to be there for her when the end came. He, and I, held her and stroked her, as she slowly slipped away.

You will cherish the precious memories of your beloved friend. As long as you keep those memories alive, she will always be with you.

I can fully relate Darren. My condolences to you and your family.

I love labs, they are inteligent, obedient and gentle dogs. Great for hunting or as a family pet.

My family and I are still hurting from the loss of Petie 2 months ago. We are going to get a new kitten from the shelter in 2 days and are looking forward to it. Still, it will not be Petie, but at least we will have a new pet to grow with and love.
