I just put new upholstery on my bench seat and have not re-assembled the seat. It seems to me that if I can put the seat back into the car without the backrests in place it will be a lot easier. Does anyone have experience with putting the seat bottom in place in the car and then installing the backrest portions?? Thank in advance.

Thats what I did. Seat bottom first, then the backrests. Worked for me.

I thought it was easier to do the same thing as Tino, after I recovered my bench on my 70 Malibu. The divers side is kinda tight with the steering wheel in the way.
I also found it easier to unbolt the belts and feed them back (metal bolt bracket first)thru the access holes in the seat.
