Someone local is selling a front disc conversion with 2" drop spindles at a pretty good price. This is the kit from OPGI (http://www.opgi.com/product.asp?catmainid=1&topcatid=3&chapterid=565&GrpCode=27615&ProdCode=CH24820&yearrange=). I'm not looking for big 13" stopping power, but am looking to add upper and lower control arms from someone like global west. How would these spindles do with that configuration?

you can use a set of global west upper and lower control arms. with factory style ball joints in there but really all you would be doing is just getting stronger arms with better bushings if thats what your looking fo then http://www.globalwest.net/1964-72%20Chevelle,%20GTO,%20Olds,%20Buick%20GS%20A-body%20tubular%20control%20arms.htm
That page should do it for you but if you are looking for geomatry then there are other ways hope this helps.

Check these guys out, they have dropped spindles, upper and lower control arms and big break kits. Just to name some of the stuff.
I spoke to them at SEMA and they are very nice and seem to make some great products especially for the money.

I already bought them. I got the drop spindles complete with disc brakes for $400.
