Just wondering what manual trans would be best? I have a 400 currently. The car is pro-touring with 3.73 rear gears and 25.7" tires. TQ at the wheels is 550 and HP is 450.

It depends on your engine combo and rear gearing?

I didn't see Turbo 350 hehehe, either Richmond 5 speed would do the trick, depending on your gear ratio, The OD version you get away with 3.73-4.10's the regular version 3.31-3.55's.

Did I miss something? What is the intended use for this car? Race only? Street only? Long distance travel at interstate speeds? Rear gear ratio? Rear tire height?

For my Beaumont it will go back to a cast iron case Super T10 (that I already own) and scattershield with low first gear and highway rear gears. Relatively cheap and for what I want to do will work just fine.

Street, or strip?

For strip, a 400 or Glide; for street, a 94-97 LT1 T-56 and about 4.10 - 4.33 gears.

I agree. The tko's are beautiful transmissions. I can't see going backwards with a 4 speed. Those 373 gears are not highway friendly and yet backed up with the TKO they become very freeway friendly and yet with the low 1st gear of the tko it gets you out of the hole.
I would shie clear of the 700R or 200R. I blew up 3 of them and 4 torque converts in one summer.
I vote for the TKO.
If 5 gears can't do it 6 won't help either and the cost of 6 goes way up and the tranny itself is alot bigger.

I'm with Bob West: keep the 400! Since I put a 400 in my car, maintenance has been zero. I was tired of slipping clutches and burned up throwout bearings. I would never go back to a stick. But that is just me.

I can see where you would want a stick in a touring car. TKO 600 is a nice piece.

If your going to stay with the stick i'd use the Richmond new Heavy Duty O.D. 5 speed as it is rated at 600 H.P. and will fit without cutting like the O.D. TKOs.
