With my Dynomax ceramacoated headers,,,raise the front end of the car...passenger side slid right in with spark plugs removed of course,,,had to take the drivers side motor mount loose and raise the motor slightly and it went right in.

Edit: I had to ding the tube on the drivers side to clear the brake distribution block mounted on the inside of the frame rail.

Rapid did you put header on drivers side in from the top or bottom???

Both sides come up from the bottom,I had the car up on ramps. Seems I removed the oil filter also to aid installation on the drivers side.

Rapid if you had the car on a lift do you think you would have had to lift the engine?????

Yes, since the steering column comes into play on the drivers side, you need to raise the engine slightly to gain a little more room.

Edit: what you could do is put some kind of stand with a piece of wood on it under the oil pan,and let the lift down slightly, with the bolt taken out of the motor mount of course.

Rapid thanks for your replys don't you think that would crush the oil pan? What if you disconnected the steering shaft from the box???

I don't think you'd gain enough clearance removing the steering column, its easier to remove the bolt that goes thru the center of the motor mount. The motor only needs to be lifted 2-3" or so,shouldnt have to worry about crushing the oil pan, just take it easy lower the lift slowly and make sure you have a block of wood protecting the pan. You're welcome graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I just recently put hooker headers in my 72 wagon bbc, same thing, passenger side np probs, in from bottom. Drivers side, pull bolt on mount, lift, ding tube to clear lower control arm rear mount metal, and I had to move the proportioning vlv.. My headers have 3 1/2" collectors, and the tubes are close to 2", can't remember tube size at the moment. Just know they were bigger than I was expecting.
