: Throttle Rod
Bobalos Aug 4th, 04, 12:28 PM I have a 66 & stuck a Victor Jr. onto my Big Block last night. as we were trying to ajust the throttle rod, the rod snapped off right @ the bushing/feed through in the fire wall.
has anyone tried to convert thier cars over to a cable? (66 283, with your Big Chiefs?). is there an over the counter thing that will bolt right in?
I HAVE to get the car going by Sat & need help.
thanks guys.
Bob
(ps if anyone has a stock one that they want to sell & can overnight it to San Diego, please email me r71chevy@earthlink.net)
obsessedwithmy72 Aug 4th, 04, 12:58 PM I did just about the same thing to my '66. I put in a Lokar throttle assembly and pedal which took a couple of hours. I have most of my old 66 pedal assembly, if you need a part, you are welcome to it/them.

wanarace Aug 4th, 04, 1:34 PM I can't imagine it being that hard. Go to a wrecker and grab everything from a G-body.

Bobalos Aug 4th, 04, 1:37 PM thanks guys. I called Lokar & they said that the one that they make for the 67 - 69 Camaro also fits the 64 - 67 Chevelle. She ASSURED me that it would fit. I hope to heck it will.
thanks agian

Mike Mike,
What is the part number(s) for the Lokar kit that you used? Can you post any pics of the installation?
Thanks.
Bobalos Aug 4th, 04, 3:22 PM From Summit:
LOK-BAG6096 (Pedal assy)
LOK-SRK-4000 (SS Carb Bracket with return spring)
LOK-TC-1000HT (SS Throttle Cable 24")
They should be here tomorrow. I will take pictures & try to post once I get it all done & let you guys know how it goes.

427L88 Aug 4th, 04, 3:33 PM I snapped the same rod, actually, the half moon shap at the end of the pedal rod that affixes to the throttle rod. Must be prone to it. Or we cant keep our right foot from slamming it!
BTW, the setup from a mid-70s Nova will work well.
Bobalos Aug 4th, 04, 4:04 PM right on, thanks. If this does not work out, I will try to get to the wrecker on sat & see what I can dig up. to be honest though I dont like the rod & prefer the cable, but not when I have 10,000 things to do to get it going. LOL.
thanks again for the tip.

obsessedwithmy72 Aug 4th, 04, 6:18 PM Those look like the part numbers I used. I was told also by the local shop to use an early Nova pedal assembly, but they aren't easy to find anymore.
Ken, if you don't need them instantly, I can take a few and either post them or e-mail them to you this weekend.

Mike Thanks, Mike. That would be great. I tallied up the parts on Bob's list and it came to ~$150. That's a little pricey, but I'm sure the Lokar stuff is top shelf. I use their transmission dip stick assembly and it is nice.
Scott_68_SS Aug 5th, 04, 3:56 AM 68's use a cable.
I'd think it would be cheaper. Well except for OPG's shipping overcharges...
Make sure to get the right carb bracket. The
cable housing ends are different IIRC.
Bobalos Aug 6th, 04, 1:11 PM I got the parts in yesterday & had a chance to stick the pedal into the car. the bolt holes line right up & it looks like it will work fine. I did not have time to hook it all up, I am going to do that tonight.
they are nice parts, seems to be pretty good quality.

Bobalos Aug 9th, 04, 2:44 PM it installed great, works bitchen. I took a number of pictures & will post them up in the next couple of days.
the only thing I might do differently is that the TH 1000HT is a 24" cable. I could not find a shorter one on thier web site, but a 15 - 18" cable should work just find.
I suppose I might be able to cut the cable down some, but I did not have time to play with it.
