Now that my motor is back together, anti roll bar installed , new QAL-1's all around, I'm thinking about my tires. I have read a dozen old posts and now I'm really confussed so I thought I'd ask you guys to confuse me more. What is the biggest tire anyone is running on a 67 Chevelle w/o tubbing? I'm running Hoosier 29 x 10 x 15 section width is 11.9 inches, and that is all I can get under her. I'd like to run even a taller tire but all I can find are 9" tires 30 or 31 inches tall. I can't go down in diameter as I'm running too high of RPM thru the traps now. What is everyone else running. Kjett wrote about the virtues of stiff sidewalls like MT ET Drags. Is the Hoosier DO5 compound too soft?? I installed tubes to stiffen my hoosiers as a stop gap. Any suggestions or info?? Just still trying to lower the 60' times.
Thanks

TWC, with a 29x10 hoosier you're at the max diameter. Mine has been mini'd and I now run a 29x10.5w which measures 29.3x11 and its as tall as I can go. Can't imagine going to a 30" bias ply slick at the same width without running into the frame mount behind the tire.
With my current combo I went a best of 1.48 with a 10.5x28 mt et drag on a 15x8 rim. Just by adding the 29x10.5w hoosier on a 15x10 with no other suspension changes I've dropped to a best of 1.44 with a 4.10 gear. I've since switched to a 4.56 and am hoping to see 60's in the 1.40-1.41 range with my current combo. HTH.

i got a 28x11 under my 66 but i had to stiffen the springs up to keep them from rubbing whitch did not help the 60 fts at all.that was on a 8 inch wheel 4.5 back spacing.if you are getting the 29x10s under there you are doing good in my book.i have just started tubbing mine and today found out that i will have to cut on the wheel well outer lip to get the 32x14s up in the wheel well.i was hopping i woundnt have to hack on the body.i guess we could have shorten the rear end more to clear but it would have look funny to me with that much clearance between tires and quarter panel
