Hey guys! i am in the middle of re-modeling my entire interior of my 68 SS. i have a question though. Have any of you guys done away with the factory center console and horseshoe shifter? i would like to have my two bucket seats with a very nice looking ratchet shifter. any one got pictures of this setup? and can someone recommend a good shifter that will look nice?

i have a TH350 automatic tranny.

I am always a fan of the B&M Mega-shifter. They have a standard one and a short one so you can decide what kind of look you want. i have also seen people install aftermarket shifters in stock consoles. THat is he route i am taking with my project.

So, what kind of shape is your console in and what are you going to do with it?

This is what I did to mine, it is the Quick Silver in the stock console.

very nice, i like that.

for above, my center console is almost like new. but, i want something that looks a bit more sporty. do you guys think i should build up the tranny hump thats already there to make it a little taller?

Check out my sig for a pic, PG. 2. It's not a real good pic, but it might give you an idea. I just fabricated a mount to get the right height and did a little modifying to the stock console...(It wasn't perfect anyway) and the B&M Megashifter almost looks like a stock install. It probably took me less than a couple of hours to set up. :beers:

I'm looking to do something similar to your center console. Did it go together with ease or did you have to make modifications to the console?
